SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR INTELLIGENTLY MANAGING STORAGE SPACE OCCUPIED BY MEDIA ASSETS
Systems and methods are provided reducing storage space occupied by a media asset by adjusting quality levels of the media asset downward over time. This may be accomplished by a media guidance application that store, at a given time, the media asset in a first format having a first quality level. The media guidance application retrieves, from a database, a data entry corresponding to the media asset and determines, based on the data entry, a threshold period of time for storing the media asset in the first format. The media guidance application detects whether the threshold period of time since the given time has passed and responds by altering a first portion of the media asset from the first format having the first quality level to a second format having a second quality level that is inferior to the first quality level.
Method for playing on a player of a client device a content streamed in a network
The present invention relates to a method for playing on a player of a client device (11) a content streamed in a network (1), said content consisting of a sequence of segments available in a plurality of quality levels, the player being configured so as to choose the quality level of the segments as a function of at least one parameter representative of a segment reception rate, according to an Adaptive BitRate, ABR, logic of the player; the client device (11) comprising a first buffer (M1) for storing segments in a format adapted for transferring within the network (1), the method being characterized in that it comprises performing by a processing unit (110) of the client device (11): (a) receiving from the player a request for a current segment at a first quality level; (b) estimating, for a second quality level, an optimal response delay such that providing the requested current segment at the expiration of said optimal response delay will cause the player to request according to its ABR logic a next segment at said second quality level, as a function of a model trained from a database of training examples each associating a vector of measured parameters representative of a segment reception rate with the corresponding quality level subsequently chosen by the player according to its ABR logic; (c) providing the requested current segment from the first buffer memory (M1) at the expiration of said estimated optimal response delay.
ELECTRONIC DEVICE AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING ELECTRONIC DEVICE
Disclosed are an electronic device and a method for controlling the electronic device. Specifically, the electronic device according to the present disclosure receives a first image signal and a second image signal which are separated from an original image signal through a first channel and a second channel having different frequency bandwidths, and which have different data rates. When the first image signal and the second image signal are received, the electronic device determines whether an error exists in the second image signal, obtains a first output image signal and a second output image signal on the basis of the first image signal and the second image signal according to a result of the determination, and outputs the obtained first output image signal or second output image signal.
Adaptive streaming with demuxed audio and video tracks
Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, accessing adaptive streaming information for a multimedia content segment, determining available access bandwidths for a plurality of video tracks and a plurality of audio tracks identified by the adaptive streaming information, selecting one of a plurality of candidate track pairings identified by the adaptive streaming information based on the available access bandwidths, obtaining video content of the multimedia content segment via a video track of the selected track pairing, and obtaining audio content of the multimedia content segment via an audio track of the selected track pairing. Other embodiments are disclosed.
Program, display apparatus, television receiver, display method, and display system
A television receiver segments a part of an image depending on image information received from a communication device and pixel information representing the number of pixels in a longitudinal direction and a lateral direction of the image. The television receiver judges a size between the number of pixels in the longitudinal direction and that in the lateral direction in the pixel information, and when it is judged that the number of pixels in the longitudinal direction is larger than that in the lateral direction, displays two screens in which the segmented image and another image are juxtaposed on a display unit. Meanwhile, when it is judged that the number of pixels in the longitudinal direction is not larger than that in the lateral direction, the television receiver receives a signal designating the number of screens to be displayed on the display unit and displays the two screens in which the segmented image and another image are juxtaposed or one screen of the segmented image on the display unit depending on the received signal.
METHOD AND DEVICE FOR ADAPTING THE DISPLAY OF A VIDEO STREAM BY A CLIENT
A method for adapting the display of a video stream by a client includes a modification of a video tag of the client. The modified video tag is a function of a resolution of equipment supplying the video stream, of a size of a display window for the video stream, and of an accuracy parameter. The modified video tag has the same relation as the resolution to the size of the display window in which the video stream is displayed by the client
Prioritizing tile-based virtual reality video streaming using adaptive rate allocation
The present disclosure includes methods and systems for streaming high-performance virtual reality video using adaptive rate allocation. In particular, an adaptive rate allocation system partitions a panorama video into segments or tiles and assigns priorities to each tile or segment based on input (e.g., a viewport of field-of-view) from a user client device. Further, the adaptive rate allocation system streams each tile or segment to the user client device according to the adaptive rate allocation, which maximizes bandwidth efficiency and video quality. In this manner, the adaptive rate allocation system delivers higher quality content to regions in the panorama video where a user is currently looking/most likely to look.
ELECTRONIC DEVICE AND CONTENT REPRODUCTION METHOD CONTROLLED BY THE ELECTRONIC DEVICE
An electronic device includes a communicator configured to receive content from an external device via a network; a display configured to display the received content while the content is being received by the communicator; a processor; and a memory storing one or more programs executable by the processor. The one or more programs include instructions for buffering the received content, comparing a status of the network with a bitrate of the content, and determining when to start reproducing the content based on a result of the comparing.
Method and system for transmitting video
A computerized method for transmitting one or more video streams, the method may include receiving at least one input video stream that comprises visual information obtained from multiple fields of view that differ from each other; converting the at least one input video stream to a group of encoded independent self-contained video streams (EISCVSs), by performing a codec-agnostic process; wherein different EISCVSs comprise visual information from different spatial segments of the at least one input video stream; receiving a first request to receive video information related to a first direction related to a first user; generating a first video stream that comprises a first sub-set of EISCVSs that is related to the first direction; and sending the first video stream to a device of the first user, over a first communication link that has a first bandwidth that is lower than a bandwidth required to convey the input video stream.
