PROGRAM GUIDE SYSTEM WITH VIDEO-ON-DEMAND BROWSING
An interactive television program guide system is provided in which a viewer may direct a television to simultaneously display a selected television program and a program guide display. A viewer may use the program guide display to browse available video-on-demand (VOD) while continuing to view a previously selected program in the background. The viewer may browse through video-on-demand programs on the program guide display using a variety of keys on a remote control unit. The viewer may direct the program guide to order a given video-on-demand program/and set a desired broadcast time for that program.
METHOD FOR TRANSMITTING SERVICES INFORMATION IN DIFFERENT TYPES OF BROADCASTING NETWORKS AND UNIT FOR PROCESSING SAID INFORMATION
A method for transmitting services information in a broadcasting network by at least one managing center towards a plurality of receivers includes exploring streams broadcasted by a DVB network and streams broadcasted by an IP network and extracting services information from these streams, completing an information table, situated at the highest level in a hierarchy of services information tables, included in the service information DVB-SI transmitted by the DVB network by services information related to the IP network, and transmitting the completed information table in the streams broadcasted by the DVB network towards the receivers having two switchable receiving modules, connected respectively to a DVB and an IP services broadcasting network. The receivers are able to activate the reception of digital data of a service, equivalent to the service currently received, with a second receiving module when receiving conditions of a first receiving module are degraded.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR PROVIDING BLACKOUT SUPPORT IN VIDEO MOSAIC ENVIRONMENTS
Systems and methods for providing blackout support in video mosaic environments are disclosed. In response to receiving a request for a video mosaic page, screen data, which may include blackout information, is received. The screen data identifies the video assets in the video mosaic page. A determination is made, based at least in part on the screen data, whether any video assets in the video mosaic page should be blacked out. Blacked out assets may be masked and their associated audio blocked. In addition, an overlay of options associated with the blacked out asset may be presented. The overlay may include options to substitute the blacked out asset with replacement content, search for similar content, or retrieve more information about the blackout.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DETECTING VIDEO PLAYABILITY
System and methods related to video information distribution are provided. The system may obtain a video source address. The system may receive a video segment of a video stream from a remote server configured with the video source address. The system may parse the video segment for header information. The system may determine that a video corresponding to the video source address is playable on a remote device in response to the header information being included in the video segment. The system may store the video source address in a database. The database may include a plurality video addresses corresponding to respective videos that are playable on the remote device.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR DIGITAL MEDIA STORAGE AND PLAYBACK
Methods and systems for storage and playback of broadcast media received via a local digital video recording (DVR) system. The system includes the DVR system configured to receive the broadcast media and upload the broadcast media to a storage server over a network. The DVR system divides the broadcast media content into blocks and assigns a unique block ID to each block based on the block data. Prior to uploading each block to the storage server, the unique block ID is sent to the storage server, which only uploads and stored the block if a duplicate block has not already been stored on the storage device, minimizing network demand. A transcoding server coupled to the storage server transcodes the broadcast media content for streaming over the network.
BROADCASTING SIGNAL TRANSMISSION DEVICE, BROADCASTING SIGNAL RECEPTION DEVICE, BROADCASTING SIGNAL TRANSMISSION METHOD, AND BROADCASTING SIGNAL RECEPTION METHOD
A broadcasting signal reception device according to an embodiment of the present invention may comprise: a reception unit for receiving, through the broadcasting network, a broadcasting signal including a first component of a DASH content which can be received through a broadcasting network and a broadband network; a delivery module for de-capsulating the received broadcasting signal, outputting LCT packets transmitted through one or more LCT channels, and parsing signaling information used for acquiring segments corresponding to the first component of the DASH content included in the LCT packets; and a decoder for decoding the acquired segments.
INFORMATION PROCESSING DEVICE
Provided is an information processing device capable of operating in accessibility mode of guaranteeing browsing corresponding to disability or functional degeneration of a body of an operator. A source device checks whether each sink device is in accessibility mode at the time of connection, and determines whether or not metadata for supporting disability (for example, audios, videos, texts, vibration information, or the like) is added to the sink device in the accessibility mode at the time of transmission of original image/audio data. The source device changes a metadata transmission method in accordance with whether the accessibility mode of each sink device is turned on or off.
Method and Apparatus For Selection of Content From A Stream of Data
A main stream contains successive content elements of video and/or audio information that encode video and/or audio information at a first data rate. A computation circuit (144) computes main fingerprints from the successive content elements. A reference stream is received having a second data rate lower than the first data rate. The reference stream defines a sequence of the reference fingerprints. A comparator unit (144) compares the main fingerprints with the reference fingerprints. The main stream is monitored for the presence of inserted content elements between original content elements, where the original content elements have main fingerprints that match successive reference fingerprints and the inserted content elements have main fingerprints that do not match reference fingerprints. Rendering of inserted content elements to be skipped. In an embodiment when more than one content element matches only one is rendered. In another embodiment matching is used to control zapping to or from the main stream. In another embodiment matching is used to control linking of separately received mark-up information such as subtitles to points in the main stream.
ADAPTABLE PROGRAMMING GUIDE FOR NETWORKED DEVICES
In one embodiment, a method of generating an electronic program guide for a user of an entertainment system is disclosed. The method includes retrieving, by a user computer in communication with the entertainment system, preference criteria corresponding to one or more user preferences describing payment requirements. The user computer receives a plurality of content listings, each content listing comprising a content title, an indication of a content source, and a payment requirement, and a search query including a content title. The user computer also identifies a subset of the plurality of content listings based on content title and the search query, and ranks each content listing in the subset based on a comparison of the preference criteria and the payment requirement of each content listing in the subset. A content entry in the electronic program guide is created comprising each content listing in the subset in ranked order.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR ROUTING MEDIA
In one aspect, a method for managing streaming of video content to a client device includes providing the video content to a content distribution network for storage in a plurality of geographically separated resources of the content distribution network and receiving, from the client device via a packet-based telecommunication network, signaling to have the stored video content streamed to the client device. In response to the received signaling, one or more files are transmitted to the client device via the packet-based telecommunication network, each of the one or more files being in a format compatible with a media player on the client device, the one or more files comprising (i) an identification of one or more of the resources of the content distribution network available to facilitate streaming of one or more segments of the stored video content to the client device, the identification being dependent at least in part on a relationship between a geographic location of the client device and geographic locations of the resources of the content distribution network, and (ii) an identification of an advertising server, the identification of the advertising server being dependent at least in part on a relationship between the geographic location of the client device and a geographic location of the advertising server, wherein the one or more files, when processed by the client device, cause the client device to communicate with the identified one or more resources of the content distribution network and the advertising server to cause the one or more segments of the stored video to be streamed to the client device by the identified one or more resources of the content distribution network and cause one or more advertisements to be streamed from the advertising server to the client device.
