An electronic device for controlling the broadcasting of digital audio and/or video streams that includes: a module for receiving a list of upcoming streams able to be broadcast; a module for acquiring a set of profile(s) of a group of user(s); a module for detecting, among the received list and based on the acquired set, a preferred digital stream intended to be broadcast after a current digital stream; and a module for switching from a broadcast of the current stream to a broadcast of the preferred stream. The detection module is configured to detect an event triggering a switch to the preferred stream, and the switching module is configured to operate at least according to an automatic mode, where it is able to switch from the broadcasting of the current stream to that of the preferred stream upon the detection of the triggering event.

Methods and apparatus to estimate audience sizes and durations for media accesses are disclosed. An example apparatus at least one memory, instructions, and processor circuitry to execute the instructions to select constraint equations corresponding to one or more events, the one or more events corresponding to a first audience and a second audience, the first audience to include the second audience, and determine, based on the constraint equations and an auxiliary equation, event audience sizes corresponding to the first audience and to the one or more events.

A method, a set-top box, and a non-transitory computer readable medium for content switching and content control based on multi-user profiles. The method includes: capturing, by the set-top box, the facial information of two or more users of the plurality of users viewing content on a media play device, the media play device configured to display content from the set-top box; sending, by the set-top box, the captured facial information of the two or more users of the plurality of user viewing content on the media play device to the server; and receiving, on the set-top box, recommended content for the two or more users viewing the media play device based on a multi-user profile for the two or more users from the plurality of user profiles.

In some implementations, a user device can predictively route media content to a remote playback device based on playback context information obtained by the user device. The playback context can include local playback context information related to the state and/or context of the user device. The playback context can include remote playback context information related to the state and/or context of available remote playback devices. Based on the playback context information obtained by the user device, the user device can generate a predictive score for each available playback device that indicates or predicts the likelihood that the user will want to send media content to the corresponding playback device. The user device can generate and present a graphical user interface that can identify the playback devices having predictive scores over a threshold score. In some instances, the user device can automatically route selected media content to a predicted playback device.

Systems and methods for detecting a conflict between viewing selections of two users before viewing a media asset. In some aspects, the method comprises receiving an audio input through an audio channel, detecting a first utterance from a first user and a second utterance from a second user in the input of the audio channel, parsing the first utterance and the second utterance, analyzing the first utterance and the second utterance to determine context about the first media asset and the second media asset, and presenting a conflict to the users to display on the media asset.

An intelligent return path data (iRPD) system enables transmission of return path data via a communication network for a television connected to a non-hybrid set top box (STB). The iRPD system is configured to receive the key codes of the keys pressed on a remote control device along with the date time stamps and the location information. The iRPD system analyzes the keypress data along with the date time stamps to recognize the channels accessed in programming operations and the non-programming control operations executed by a viewer operating the remote control device. The viewer's behavior pattern is thus recorded and analyzed to identify the viewer. Upon identifying the viewer, various functions such as collecting the viewership statistics, implementing metered usage billing or ecommerce activities are enabled.
