Mapped views of digital content
Systems and methods for mapped views of digital content are provided. A map structure for a collection of digital content streams from a content provider may be stored in memory. Such map structure may include a predetermined plurality of slots arranged in one or more tiers. A browsing request may be received from a spectator device over a communication network, and such browsing request may be identified as pertaining to the collection of digital content streams. A mapped view of the requested collection may be generated that illustrates the predetermined plurality of slots arranged in the tiers in accordance with the stored map structure. Further, information regarding browsing activity by the spectator device within the generated mapped view may be received and evaluated to identify when the spectator device selects one of the illustrated slots. As such, one of the digital content streams in the collection may be identified as being associated with the selected slot, and the identified digital content stream may be launched.
System and method of personalizing playlists using memory-based collaborative filtering
Systems and methods are provided for personalizing new song suggestions for a user. A plurality of users provides thumbs up and thumbs down ratings for a pair of songs (song A and B). A first aggregate rating for song B is calculated based on ratings given to song A by all of the users that gave a like rating to song A. Similarly, a second aggregate rating is calculated for song B based on ratings given to song B by all users that gave a dislike rating to song A. Then a user that has not previously rated song B, supplies a rating for song A. A prediction is performed of how the user will rate song B based on the user's rating of song A. For example, the first aggregate rating for song B is used if the user rated song A positively.
System and method for classifying recorded content for deletion
Systems and methods are disclosed herein for classifying, based on most recent information associated with recorded content, the recorded content to an appropriate deletion classifier. A media guidance application may receive information about an event that is associated with a recorded media asset. The media guidance application may determine, based on the event and a current deletion classifier associated with the recorded media asset, whether the current deletion classifier associated with the recorded media asset needs to be updated to a new deletion classifier. The media guidance application may make this determination by accessing a deletion classification database containing rules for classifying recorded media assets into a variety of deletion classifiers. Upon determining that the current deletion classifier associated with the recorded media asset needs to be updated to a new deletion classifier, the media guidance application may update the current deletion classifier to the new deletion classifier.
Media channel identification with multi-match detection and disambiguation based on time of broadcast
Disclosed herein are methods and systems to help disambiguate channel identification in a scenario where fingerprint data of media content being rendered by a media presentation device matches multiple reference fingerprints corresponding respectively with multiple different channels. Upon detecting such a multi-match, a server or other entity will perform disambiguation based at least in part on a comparison of time of broadcast of the media content being rendered by the media presentation device with time of broadcast of the media content represented by the reference fingerprints. The server or other entity will thereby determine the channel on which the media content being rendered by the media presentation device is arriving, so as to facilitate taking channel-specific action.
Systems and methods for dynamically enabling and disabling a biometric device
Systems and methods are described to address deficiencies in conventional biometric devices by dynamically enabling and disabling a biometric device based on the content the user is viewing. The media guidance application may utilize a device enablement rule, which has content criteria. If the content criteria is satisfied, the media guidance application may enable or disable a biometric device in accordance with the device enablement rule.
METHODS AND SYSTEM FOR DISTRIBUTING INFORMATION VIA MULTIPLE FORMS OF DELIVERY SERVICES
A content distribution facilitation system is described comprising configured servers and a network interface configured to interface with a plurality of terminals in a client server relationship and optionally with a cloud-based storage system. A request from a first source for content comprising content criteria is received, the content criteria comprising content subject matter. At least a portion of the content request content criteria is transmitted to a selected content contributor. If recorded content is received from the first content contributor, the first source is provided with access to the received recorded content. The recorded content may be transmitted via one or more networks to one or more destination devices. Optionally, a voice analysis and/or facial recognition engine are utilized to determine if the recorded content is from the first content contributor.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR PLAYING MEDIA ASSETS STORED ON A DIGITAL VIDEO RECORDER WHILE A CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE IS ONLINE
Improved technical functionality is provided to dynamically select and seamlessly play advertisements immediately before playing of a recorded program upon selection of the recorded program for playing, or upon other detected events and conditions associated with the set-top-box (STB) or user. In some embodiments, this is performed by using metadata which may be delivered to and stored on a digital video recorder (DVR) prior to recording the program, providing a technical solution to enable opportunities for additional advertisement impressions. Playing of the advertisement may also or instead occur upon the recorded program finishing playing. Thus, the technical solution provides the additional opportunity for the content creator and/or the satellite television or cable service provider to sell advertising spots in addition to those already sold for breaks within the recorded program.
Method and system for use of network affiliation as basis to determine channel rendered by content presentation device
A computing system detects a channel multi-match with non-matching programs, based on fingerprint-based ACR analysis of digital fingerprint data representing a channel rendered by a content presentation device. The system then responsively determines a channel rendered by the device through a process including (a) determining that channels of the multi-match group are all affiliate channels of the same network as each other and (b) determining, as the channel, which affiliate channel of that network serves a location of the content presentation device. The system then uses the determined channel as a basis for carrying out of at least one channel-specific operation, such as recording audience-measurement data and/or invoking dynamic content modification.
METHOD AND SYSTEM TO SHARE A SNAPSHOT EXTRACTED FROM A VIDEO TRANSMISSION
The present invention refers to the field of television experience in particular the simultaneous use of the portable computing device and a television to share a user's experience. The present disclosure proposes a method to create a snapshot from a video transmission received by a receiver, said receiver being connected with a portable computing device and having a screen output, said method comprising the steps of receiving a video transmission by the receiver, converting by the receiver, the video transmission into a lower-bandwidth video transmission, sending the lower-bandwidth video transmission to the portable computing device, receiving from the portable computing device to the receiver, a command to execute a snapshot, producing by the receiver a snapshot from the video transmission, sending the snapshot to the portable computing device.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR USING CROWD SOURCING TO SCORE ONLINE CONTENT AS IT RELATES TO A BELIEF STATE
A method comprising: during a first time period, obtaining one or more first content ratings of a particular content item from one or more first users, each first content rating defining a first user measure of a belief state of the particular content item; and generating a first content score for the particular content item, the first content score defining a crowd-sourced measure of the belief state of the particular content item; during a second time period, obtaining one or more second content ratings from one or more second users for the particular content item, each second content rating defining a second user measure of the belief state of the particular content item; and generating a second content score for the particular content item, the second content score defining a second crowd-sourced measure of the belief state of the particular content item; comparing the second crowd-sourced measure of the belief state of the particular content item against each of the one or more first content ratings of the particular content item to determine an expertise value for each of the one or more first users; and issuing the expertise value to each of the one or more first users.
