The present technology relates to a reception device, a reception method, a transmission device, and a transmission method that make it possible to provide content according to a preference of a user. Provided is a reception device including: a tuning control unit configured to perform tuning control for tuning digital broadcasting using an Internet Protocol (IP) transmission scheme; and an acquisition control unit configured to perform acquisition control for acquiring content transmitted in the digital broadcasting according to a result of a matching process on a provider-side PDI-A indicating an answer set by a provider that provides content to a question on preference of a user included in transmission information transmitted in an upper layer of an IP layer of protocol layers of the IP transmission scheme and client-side PDI-A indicating an answer set by the user to the question in the digital broadcasting. The present technology can be applied to, for example, a television receiver set.

Systems and methods of emulating a conversation about a thematic content event are disclosed. An exemplary embodiment receives a member dialogue video from a community member who is a member of a plurality of community members, wherein the member dialogue video includes video and audio portions, and wherein the member dialogue video expresses at least one of a personal opinion and a personal viewpoint about the thematic content event; generates dialogue text from the audio portion of each received member dialogue video, wherein the dialogue text comprises words and phrases spoken by the community member in the member dialogue video; receives a modified thematic content event; compares the words and phrases of the dialogue text with the plurality of keywords; and associates at least one portion of the member dialogue video having the words and phrases of the dialogue text that match with the matching keyword of the anchor point.

A processor may receive a recording. The recording may include one or more user guidance sequences and be displayed to a user. The processor may receive a first user input response to an initiation of a first user guidance sequence. The processor may determine, in response to receiving the first user input, that there is a discrepancy between the first user input and the first user guidance sequence. The processor may automatically modify the playback setting of the recording. The processor may display the discrepancy between the first user input and the first user guidance sequence to the user.

Video content is uploaded via the Internet to a video-on-demand (VOD) server identified by a title and a hierarchical address of categories and subcategories for categorizing the title. The VOD server converts and stores the video content at a storage address in a video content database linked to the title. The title is listed in a location of an electronic program guide (EPG) using the same categories and subcategories as in its hierarchical address. Any TV subscriber can access the EPG and navigate through its categories and subcategories to find a title for viewing on the TV. This can enable many new blogging or podcasting-like programs by popular “Hosts” to be self-published on the Internet and readily navigated for display on TV. The EPG can also store TV program addresses as bookmarks and allow them to be shared with other subscribers or with friends and contacts online by sending to their email addresses.

Provided is a process of matching media characters, the process including: obtaining a plurality of character records, each character record including a trait vector specifying traits of the respective character; receiving a request from a user device to match characters in the character records, the request identifying at least one reference character record; calculating, with one or more processors, matching scores indicative of similarity between the trait vector of the reference character record and trait vectors of other character records among the plurality of character records; selecting a responsive character record from among the plurality of character records based on the matching scores; and sending instructions to the user device to display information about a character of the responsive character record.

Systems and methods are described for providing interactive content contextually related to an occurrence. An illustrative method generates for display, at a media consumption device, a display of the live event, wherein the display of the live event comprises the occurrence, determines a beginning of the occurrence in the display of the live event, in response to determining the beginning of the occurrence in the display of the live event, generates for simultaneous display, with the display of the live event, interactive content related to the occurrence, determines whether the occurrence in the live event has ended in real time, and in response to determining that the occurrence in the live event has ended in real time, ceases the generating for display of the interactive content related to the occurrence.

A video community system that provides conversation videos to a member who is one of a plurality of community members. The system can include a conversation video storage medium that stores conversation videos that are each associated with one of a plurality of thematic content events; and a member interface that couples the video community system to a plurality of user devices. The member interface receives a user request from the requesting community member for a conversation video that is associated with a particular thematic content event. In response, the video community system accesses the conversation video from the conversation video storage medium that is associated with the particular thematic content event identified in the user request. The video community system communicates the accessed conversation video and at least a portion of the particular thematic content event to the requesting community member's device for concurrent display.

A system for hosting a live multicast session, the system comprising a processor and a memory having executable instructions stored thereon that when executed by the processor cause the processor to establish a live multicast session initiated by a multicasting user of a multicasting client device wherein the live multicast session transmits a live media stream to viewer client devices of viewer users. The processor is further configured to receive an indication of a voting event from the multicasting user during the live multicast session, generate choices based on input from the multicasting user, present the choices to the viewer client devices, receive votes on the choices from the viewer client devices, calculate a result of the votes, and reward the viewer users based on the result of the votes.

A method of operating a display apparatus includes: obtaining situation information for voice recognizer selection, selecting at least one of a plurality of voice recognizers based on the situation information, obtaining a voice recognition result from a voice signal, using the selected at least one voice recognizer, and obtaining a chat message from the voice recognition result.
