According to an embodiment of the present disclosure, a display device includes a display, a communication interface configured to communicate with an external device, and a processor configured to receive language usage information of a user, determine a main language of the user based on the language usage information, compare a set system language with the main language, and when the system language is different from the main language, change the system language such that the system language is set to the main language or perform suggestion that the system language is set to the main language.

Transmission device, transmission method, reception device, and reception method

A technique capable of allowing a reception side to easily select components is provided. A transport stream in which a first transport packet including predetermined components and a second transport packet including signaling information related to the predetermined components are time-division multiplexed is transmitted via a predetermined transport path. Component selection information is inserted in the second transport packet. The component selection information includes information on a selective layer in which static selection is performed, information on a composite layer in which composition is performed, and information on an adaptive layer in which dynamic switching is performed, and these layers being arranged in that order from top to bottom. The acquisition destination information of a component which is a target of adaptive switching among the components selectable in the adaptive layer is information that designates specific information location of a metafile having data stream acquisition information for adaptive streaming.

Multimedia distribution system for multimedia files with packed frames

A multimedia file and methods of generating, distributing and using the multimedia file are described. Multimedia files in accordance with embodiments of the present invention can contain multiple video tracks, multiple audio tracks, multiple subtitle tracks, data that can be used to generate a menu interface to access the contents of the file and ‘meta data’ concerning the contents of the file. Multimedia files in accordance with several embodiments of the present invention also include references to video tracks, audio tracks, subtitle tracks and ‘meta data’ external to the file. One embodiment of a multimedia file in accordance with the present invention includes a series of encoded video frames and encoded menu information.

Aspects described herein may provide systems, methods, and device for facilitating language learning using videos. Subtitles may be displayed in a first, target language or a second, native language during display of the video. On a pause event, both the target language subtitle and the native language subtitle may be displayed simultaneously to facilitate understanding. While paused, a user may select an option to be provided with additional contextual information indicating usage and context associated with one or more words of the target language subtitle. The user may navigate through previous and next subtitles with additional contextual information while the video is paused. Other aspects may allow users to create auto-continuous video loops of definable duration, and may allow users to generate video segments by searching an entire database of subtitle text, and may allow users create, save, share, and search video loops.

AUDIO TRICK MODE
20230179735 · 2023-06-08 · ·

Various embodiments of apparatus, systems and/or methods are described for independently controlling an audio stream relative to a video stream in audio trick mode. In one example, an audio stream and a video stream is received, where the audio stream comprises frames that correspond to corresponding frames of the video stream. The audio and video streams are played from a first time to a second time at a first speed. An input to time shift the audio stream independent of the video stream is received, and after receiving such, the audio stream is time shifted to the first time. Then, the audio stream may be replayed from the first time to the second time at a second speed different from the first speed.

Embodiments of the present application relate to a method, apparatus, and system for processing subtitle data. The method includes dividing subtitle data into multiple subtitle groups according to subtitle data display time information related to a played object, wherein a subtitle group comprises at least one subtitle data entry, and wherein a subtitle data entry comprises subtitle content, a subtitle display time in relation to the played object, and a speed of subtitle motion, selecting a piece of subtitle data from a subtitle group according to the display time information of the played object, and causing the selected piece of subtitle data to be displayed on a track such that the selected piece of subtitle data does not overlap with or pass another piece of subtitle data displayed on the track.

Content receiver system and method for providing supplemental content in translated and/or audio form
09826270 · 2017-11-21 · ·

Systems and methods utilize a content receiver to provide supplemental content, such as news content, personal content and advertising content, to a user. Received data is formatted as supplemental content by the content receiver based on user preference information stored therein, and the formatted supplemental content is transmitted to a content display device. The supplemental content is provided to the user in addition or as an alternative to video content, and may replace or supplement closed captioning content. The supplemental content may be translated into another language and/or converted into audio signals utilizing the content receiver. Systems and methods also utilize a content receiver to translate data such as text data into another language. Text data may, in addition or alternatively, be converted into audio signals utilizing the content receiver.

Systems and methods for controlling closed captioning
11671674 · 2023-06-06 · ·

A system for controlling turning on and off of closed captioning receives information regarding a program content stream and automatically determines whether to turn on or off closed captioning based on thresholds being crossed regarding an estimated current loudness level of ambient noise and an estimated current loudness level of the audio of the program content stream. The estimated current loudness level of audio of the program content stream is, or is based on, one or more indications of current volume level in an audio signal representing the audio of the program content stream and current audio settings of a device outputting the audio of the program content stream. The system may estimate the loudness level of the ambient noise by use of a loudness meter that causes the ambient noise to be sampled with a microphone and a decibel level of the sampled ambient noise to be determined.
