Apparatus and methods for provisioning in a download-enabled system
Apparatus and methods for provisioning of customer premise equipment (CPE) equipped with a secure microprocessor to receive e.g., digital video content by entering unique identification of the CPE at one or more servers located at the headend or other location of a content-based network. In one embodiment, the CPE comprises a download-enabled (e.g., DCAS) host with embedded cable modem and embedded set-top box functionality, and the provisioning includes enabling DOCSIS functionality of the CPE, assigning an IP address to the CPE and providing the CPE with a client image for the conditional access system chosen by the network operator. In one variant, the network operator can deactivate a provisioned device while connected to the network, as well when disconnected from the network. The network operator can also add, delete or replace conditional access client image in a provisioned device.
BULK INTERFERENCE GROUP RECOVERY IN FULL DUPLEX CATV ARCHITECTURES
Systems and methods in a full duplex transmission network that selectively perform periodic sounding tests to determine an optimal interference group arrangement of cable modems, and stores a redundant copy of the latest optimal interference group arrangement for recovery after a system reset/reboot.
EXTENDED DIGITAL INTERFACE (XDI) SYSTEMS, DEVICES, CONNECTORS, AND METHODS
Extended Digital Interface (XDI) provides systems, devices, connectors, signals, and methods to send 3D Vector and Motion based audio video serial digital signals through local systems or internet with significantly reduced bandwidth requirements and lower device costs, over longer cable runs. The XDI system has higher flexibility for connection topologies and scalability. The XDI system is much simpler to install employing the single coax cables and connectors, or internet, or Wi-Fi, which is simple and easy to work with, without introducing any signal quality losses or delays comparing to the current 2D Frame and Pixel based digital systems using multiple conductors like HDMI, DVI, DP or SDI when using the already compressed audio video content. The XDI system also provides solutions for integrating the uncompressed audio video content and Internet content into this system. These systems, devices, connectors and methods are collectively called “XDI” (Extended Digital Interface).
Method and apparatus for controlling a gain of an amplifier of a cable modem
A method and apparatus for controlling a gain of an amplifier of a cable modem operating in a full duplex (FDX) mode. A cable modem includes an amplifier configured to amplify a received signal, a power meter configured to measure a power of the received signal on a plurality of channels, and a control unit configured to estimate a maximum expected power to receive on the plurality of channels based on the measured power and set a gain of the amplifier based on the maximum expected power. The cable modem is configured to operate in a full duplex mode. The channels include a full duplex upstream channel, a full duplex downstream channel, and a legacy downstream channel. The maximum expected power may be estimated via a sounding procedure. A power spectral density may be measured and the maximum expected power may be derived from the power spectral density.
SYSTEM FOR QUEUING FLOWS TO CHANNELS
A system for queuing flows to channels.
Session control of broadcast video services for DAA and non-DAA automation
The system may include a headend and/or a hub that includes a processor that provides signals to consumer premises devices. The headend and/or the hub is configured with a headend configuration table defining broadcast video services for a desired distribution of broadcast video services, where configurating the headend configuration table is performed based upon data from a digital video configuration service that is independent of the broadcast video services.
Entry device for communicating external network signals and in-home network signals
An entry device for communicating external network signals between an in-home network and an external network, for communicating in-home network signals within the in-home network, and for preventing the in-home network signals from being communicated from the in-home network to the external network, the entry device includes a signal attenuation and communication device comprising one or more directional couplers, the signal attenuation and communication device being configured to permit upstream and downstream external network signals to communicate between an entry port and a first network work, and between the entry port and a second network port, and to block and permit communication of in-home network signals between the first network port, the second network port, and the entry port at least partially depending on a direction in which the in-home network signals are travelling.
A CHOKE
A choke comprising a ferrite core (202) having a first diameter (204); a conductor (206) wound around the core into a plurality of windings characteristic to a first frequency range of the RF signals, wherein a first end (206a) of said windings is substantially aligned with a first end (202a) of the core (202) and a subset of said windings (206b), from a second end of said windings, extends beyond a second end of the core (202b) or surrounds a length of the second end of the core, wherein said length of the second end of the core has a second smaller diameter (208), for extending an upper frequency edge of the first frequency range.
LICENSE MANAGEMENT FOR VCORES
A cable distribution system includes a head end connected to a plurality of customer devices through a transmission network that includes a remote fiber node, that converts received data to analog data suitable to be provided on a coaxial cable for the plurality of customer devices. The cable distribution system includes a license manager.
Method and apparatus for multi-band distribution of digital content
A method and apparatus to create and transmit transport multiplexes comprising one or more levels of service over a network. In one embodiment, the level of service comprises high definition (HD) content or programs, and the transmitted multiplexes are distributed over a plurality of downstream RF carriers in a cable network simultaneously. A head-end architecture for performing the multiplexing and distribution of multiple HD programs over the multiple carriers (i.e., in a “wideband” configuration) is disclosed. CPE having one or more wideband tuners is also disclosed, the CPE being adapted to receive the multiplexed HD content from the various RF carriers, and demultiplex it in order to permit decoding and subsequent viewing by the user. The use of multiple HD source programs with the multiplex advantageously provides for enhanced statistical multiplexing by providing a larger “pool” of constituent inputs and available carriers.
