20170318325 · 2017-11-02 · ·

Methods and systems for streaming venue-based to one or more mobile devices (e.g., smartphones, tablet computing devices, laptop computers, smartwatches other wearable computing devices). Venue-based data (e.g., video, audio, other data) can be processed via one or more servers associated with a packet based wireless network having at least some aspects of a wireless network that can employ one or more optical frequency bands and one or more radio frequency band for data communications, said venue-based data associated with a venue (e.g., a stadium, baseball park, eSports event, etc.). The venue-based data can be wirelessly streamed from packet based wireless network to a mobile device (or multiple mobile devices) for display via a display screen associated with the mobile device after processing (e.g., image processing) of the venue-based data.

Method for transmission of unicast control in broadcast/multicast transmission time intervals

Embodiments of the invention provide methods for maximizing the bandwidth utilization in the uplink of a communication system supporting time division multiplexing between unicast and multicast/broadcast communication modes during transmission time intervals in the downlink of a communication system. This is accomplished by multiplexing at least unicast control signaling for UL scheduling assignments in TTIs supporting the multicast/broadcast communication mode. Moreover, multiplexing of unicast control signaling can also be accomplished by splitting a symbol of the multicast/broadcast TTI into two shorter symbols with the first of these two shorter symbols carrying at least unicast control signaling and the second of these shorter symbols carrying multicast/broadcast signaling.

PRE-ROLL ADVERTISEMENT PLAYING METHOD, TERMINAL, AND VIDEO SERVER

The present disclosure discloses a pre-roll advertisement playing method, a terminal, and a video server, and relates to the field of multimedia technologies. The method includes: after detecting a play operation of an offline video, determining a current network connection status of a terminal; when the terminal is in a first connection state, determining, among multiple pre-roll advertisements obtained by the terminal, a specified pre-roll advertisement corresponding to the offline video; and playing the specified pre-roll advertisement in a process of playing the offline video. When playing an offline video in a non-WiFi connection state, the terminal may additionally play a pre-roll advertisement. Therefore, an audience range of the pre-roll advertisement is expanded, and an application range is relatively wide.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINABLE ENCODING BIT RATES FOR VIDEO DOWNLOADS
20170310729 · 2017-10-26 ·

Described embodiments include a system that includes a network interface and a processor. The processor is configured to identify, via the network interface, a state of congestion in a communication channel between a base station belonging to a cellular network and a client device, to calculate, responsively to the state of congestion, a maximum sustainable encoding bit rate (MSEBR) for a video that is being downloaded by the client device, from a server, via the communication channel, the video being encoded at a plurality of different predefined bit rates, and to inhibit the client device, in response to calculating the MSEBR, from downloading a segment of the video that is encoded at any one of the predefined bit rates that exceeds the MSEBR. Other embodiments are also described.

SOCIAL NETWORK SCREENING FOR TIME-SHIFTED CONTENT VIEWING
20170311040 · 2017-10-26 ·

An application is provided to a portable computing device to control access to social media. A user can play back recorded content that friends have commented on previously on social media. The user accesses the social media through the application, which limits presentation of comments to those made up to the current place in the content being played back but not after. This avoids spoiling the experience by avoiding the presentation of comments pertaining to parts of the content that have not yet been played back.

Controlling content distribution

A computer-implemented method for controlling content distribution includes forwarding information associated with a user to a device operated by the user, the information being configured for use in selecting content from any of multiple content providers for a content distribution to the user. The method includes receiving, in response to the information, an edit of the information forwarded from the device. The edit identifies a first content provider and including a first modification of the content distribution regarding the first content provider. The method includes storing the edit in association with the information such that the first modification is taken into account in the content distribution. The method can be implemented using a computer program product tangibly embodied in a computer-readable storage medium.

Apparatus for transmitting broadcast signals, apparatus for receiving broadcast signals, method for transmitting broadcast signals method for receiving broadcast signals

The present invention provides a method of transmitting broadcast signals. The method includes, encoding Data Pipe, DP, data according to a code rate, wherein the encoding further includes Low-Density Parity-Check, LDPC, encoding the DP data, Bit interleaving the LDPC encoded DP data, and mapping the bit interleaved DP data onto constellations; building at least one signal frame by mapping the encoded DP data; and modulating data in the built signal frame by an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing, OFDM, method and transmitting the broadcast signals having the modulated data.

Adaptive video white spot learning and user bandwidth delivery control system

A system and method that utilize a learning system to maintain a set of geographical locations indicating an area where network data coverage is poor. When it is determined that a client device is moving towards such an area, the client is forced or instructed to switch to a lower delivery bitrate for video segments in order to force the client's Adaptive Bit Rate (ABR) playback buffer to fill itself with enough low-quality video segments to enable the client to cross the area without video playback interruption. Thus, the client mobile device may be preemptively forced to choose the lowest bitrate specified in a manifest file for the delivered video segments as the bitrate for downloading video segments when approaching the poor coverage area. Hence, the client device can maintain a minimum level of Quality of Service (QoS) when moving through network areas with poor data coverage.

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a method in which a processing system obtains encoded video content, and transmits the encoded video content over a network for presentation at a communication device by a video player executing on the communication device. The encoded video content is decoded in a decoding process by a decoder of an operating system of the communication device to generate decoded video content; the decoded video content is analyzed by a complexity analyzer of the operating system to generate a video complexity report. The method also includes receiving the video complexity report over the network from the communication device, and adjusting a data rate for the encoded video content, based at least in part on the video complexity report, to generate adjusted video content for transmission to the communication device. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Method and apparatus for delivering media content and backup media content using multiple networks

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, providing a content stream to a media processor over a first network where the content stream comprises first media content, evaluating a quality of the first media content according to a quality threshold, and responsive to a determination that the quality of the first media content does not satisfy the quality threshold, providing to a cellular device second media content over a multicast-broadcast single-frequency network channel of a cellular network. Other embodiments are disclosed.
