Corresponding methods, computer system products, uses, and computer-readable media are also provided.

Acquiring network configuration data for a television receiver

Various arrangements for acquiring network configuration data are presented. In response to a television receiver being booted, the television receiver may determine if it can communicate with a service provider's server. If so, the television receiver may request network configuration data from the television programming broadcast network configuration server via a network interface. The television receiver may receive the network configuration data from the television programming broadcast network configuration server via the network interface. Based on the network configuration data, the television receiver may process television programming data received via the tuner.

Distributed content analysis network

A master node in a multimedia content network includes a processor, a content interface coupled to the processor and configured to receive, from a media source, a multimedia stream including a multimedia program, a network interface coupled to the processor and configured to provide an interface to a broadband network, processor executable instructions for performing operations including: identifying a group of subordinate nodes available to analyze a multimedia program, assigning different analysis tasks for the multimedia program to the available subordinate nodes, receiving analysis results from the subordinate nodes; and modifying electronic programming guide information for the multimedia program based on the analysis results.

Signal security in a satellite signal distribution environment

Certain embodiments provide a set top box, comprising: a processing entity configured to obtain data for a channel stacking switch, to obtain a security data element and to formulate a message for the channel stacking switch by combining the security data element with the data; a communications interface configured to send the message to channel stacking switch. Other embodiments provide a channel stacking switch, comprising: a communication interface configured to receive a message from a set top box; a processing entity configured to determine whether or not the message is legitimate and to take an action that depends on whether or not the message is legitimate. Still further embodiments provide a satellite signal receiving system comprising a channel stacking switch and at least one set top box in secure communication with the channel stacking switch.

Transmission/reception of microwave signals broadcast by a satellite with an interactive return link using a spread spectrum protocol

A transmission/reception installation for microwave radio signals, including a unit for transmission/reception including a receiver for receiving the electric signals from the conversion of radio signals received via a terrestrial or satellite link, referred to as forward-link signals, a demodulator for demodulating the electric signals using a first modulation/demodulation protocol, a modulator for modulating electric signals using a second modulation/demodulation protocol that is different than the first protocol, the second protocol being a spread-spectrum protocol, the modulator modulating the signals demodulated by the demodulator, and a converter for converting the electric signals modulated using a spread-spectrum protocol into radio signals that can be transmitted via a satellite link. The installation also includes one or more boxes including a modulator for modulating the electric signals using the first modulation/demodulation protocol, and a coaxial cable connecting the unit for transmission/reception to the boxes.

VIDEO SIGNAL CAPTURE APPARATUS

An apparatus for capturing video broadcasting signals comprises a plurality of capture channels, each channel producing respective video transport streams as inputs to a multi-channel virtualization module. Each channel comprises: an input interface powered by a low-noise power supply arranged to receive a respective modulated video broadcasting input signal within an input frequency band; a single input, dual output distribution amplifier arranged to produce first and second amplified input signals within a satellite broadcasting frequency band and within a cable and/or terrestrial broadcasting frequency band, respectively. A first tuner is configured to receive and downconvert the first amplified input signal to generate a first baseband signal; a second tuner is configured to receive and downconvert the second amplified input signal to generate a second baseband signal; and a demodulator is configured to receive the baseband signals as input and to generate the respective video transport stream.

Home automation bubble architecture

Systems and methods for controlling a plurality of devices in a home automation system may include providing a device proxy for a device connected to the home automation system and setting a new value in a value box of the device proxy, whereby the value box corresponds to at least one of a sensor, control, and metadata of the device. The systems and methods may further include determining one or more rules associated with the device proxy and running the determined one or more rules, whereby the determined one or more rules are indicative of interactive relationships between the device proxy and one or more other device proxies corresponding to one or more other devices connected to the home automation system.

System and methods for providing content to vehicles

Systems and methods are disclosed for delivering programming content to vehicles (e.g., seagoing vessels) in a cost-effective manner. In some embodiments, programming content may be delivered to vehicles over previously deployed networks (e.g., satellite networks), using excess network capacity which may not otherwise be used to deliver data. By opportunistically employing excess network capacity (e.g., as the capacity becomes available), data constituting programming content may be delivered to vehicles over a period of time, such as via multicast transmission. A vehicle may store received data on one or more onboard servers. After an item of programming content has been received, the item may be made accessible to the vehicle's crew and/or passengers, such as by streaming the item to one or more suitably configured playback devices. Content may be served to playback devices “on demand” and/or according to a programming schedule.
