Video Alternate Network Access Points and Receivers
Concepts and technologies for video alternate network access points and receivers that enable wireless delivery of video content to multiple customer premises over a service area are provided herein. In an embodiment, a system includes a satellite dish receiver that is configured to receive a satellite video feed, and a video alternate network access point that is communicatively coupled to the satellite dish receiver. The video alternate network access point can perform operations that ingest the satellite video feed directly from the satellite dish receiver. The operations can activate a microcell transceiver embedded within the video alternate network access point, and identify a multicast-broadcast single-frequency network channel. The operations can then transmit, to a video alternate network receiver device from the microcell transceiver, the satellite video feed over at least the multicast-broadcast single-frequency network channel.
Remotely generated encoding metadata for local content encoding
Embodiments are directed towards remotely generating encoding metadata at a remote content distributor for use by a local user computing device. The remote content distributor receives and encodes content. During or after the encoding process, the remote content distributor generates encoding metadata that indicates how the content was encoded by the remote content distributor. The remote content distributor provides the encoding metadata to the user computer device. The user computing device receives the content and the encoding metadata and encodes the content based on the encoding metadata. The user computing device can then provide the encoded content to another computing device for decoding and presentation to a user.
TRANSMISSION METHOD, RECEPTION METHOD, TRANSMISSION APPARATUS, AND RECEPTION APPARATUS
A transmission method includes: generating a frame for transfer which stores one or more first internet protocol (IP) packets storing content, and one or more second IP packets each including reference clock information which indicates a time for a playback of the content; and transmitting the generated frame through broadcasting. In the generating, header compression is performed on the one or more first IP packets and the header compression is not performed on the one or more second IP packets.
Systems and methods for IP-based asset package distribution for provisioning targeted advertisements
Embodiments are related to faster provisioning of targeted advertisements at a set-top box (STB) via an Internet Protocol (IP) connection between the STB and a remote server. The disclosed IP-based advertisement distribution system enables targeted advertisements to be pulled from the remote server efficiently, causing the advertisements to be made available within a short time frame (e.g., less than one day from the time when the advertisements are available). The disclosed methods enables a STB to determine whether to retain existing targeted advertisements, discard them, or provision newly-available advertisements. The targeted advertisements can depend on various factors such as demographic information of an owner of the STB, lifestyle information of the owner of the STB, etc.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MANAGING REDUNDANT SEGMENTED STREAMS
Systems and methods are described herein for processing video data to cause a reduction in the number of versions of encoded content propagated via a content delivery network (CDN). Redundant encoders may send the versions of the same video segment for redundancy purposes. A server in the CDN may determine, based on information in a video segment, that the video segment may have been encoded based on source frames that are bit-wise or perceptually identical to source frames of a previously received video segment. The server may then discard the identical video segment so that the redundant copy is not saved in the CDN.
DVB-S2 DOWNLINK ACM ALGORITHM ENHANCEMENT TO IMPROVE DATA THROUGHPUT
An apparatus for determining a set of transmit parameters capable of improving and/or optimizing data throughput to a destination device. The apparatus includes an input circuit that receives a signal containing a plurality of data blocks for use by a plurality of devices. At least one of the data blocks is associated with the apparatus and encoded using a first set of transmit parameters. A transmit parameter processor determines a signal to noise ratio value for the received signal and a block error rate value for the at least one data block and at least one other data block encoded using a different set of transmit parameters. A processor generates a request for encoding subsequent data blocks destined to the apparatus using a second set of transmit parameters. A method and system are also disclosed.
SATELLITE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM AND SATELLITE COMMUNICATION METHOD
A satellite communication system includes a satellite gateway and a plurality of satellite communication terminals. The satellite gateway includes a satellite communication module that is configured to transmit video content data automatically based on a predetermined condition via a satellite communication network. The satellite communication terminals are disposed at a plurality of remote locations, respectively. The satellite communication terminals each includes a satellite communication module that is configured to receive the video content data from the satellite gateway via the satellite communication network, a memory that is configured to pre-store the video content data prior to a first video content request of the video content data via a local communication network, and a local communication module that is configured to provide the video content data from the memory in response to the first video content request of the video content data via the local communication network.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR DIGITAL PROGRAM INSERTION IN SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS
A satellite provider system receives a provider stream including break cue data. The satellite provider system generates adjusted break cue data by adjusting time stamps in the break cue data. The satellite provider system inserts the break cue data, the adjusted break cue data, and break description data into the provider stream in data packets all having a same packet identification. The satellite provider system broadcasts the provider stream from a satellite transponder.
Satellite signal switching system
A content signal switching controller receives first signal information about a first content signal provided by a first satellite antenna and received by a trunk distribution system. The first signal information indicates the quality of a satellite signal that is received by the first satellite antenna and that is converted to the first content signal. The content signal switching controller receives second signal information about a second content signal provided by a second satellite antenna. The second signal information indicates the quality of the satellite signal that is received by the second satellite antenna. In response to the content signal switching controller determining that the first signal information and the second signal information satisfy a first signal switching condition, a content signal switch instruction is provided to a switch device to switch the trunk distribution system from being provided the first content signal to being provided the second content signal.
