Embodiments described herein relate to real-time streaming of large quantities of time critical data over multiple distinct networks from a communications device. More specifically, embodiments described herein may address challenges and problems of maintaining consistent data reception quality when faced with the anomalies of a moving sender that is sending data using a relatively unstable method. This may be achieved by converting single source data into multiple data streams, placing them in transport buffers and storing them for forwarding.

A method of processing media data. The method includes determining, for a conversion between the media data and a media data file, whether a size and a position of a target picture-in-picture region in a main video are present in the media data file, wherein a supplementary video appears to be overlaid on the target picture-in-picture region when the main video is displayed; and performing the conversion between the media data and the media data file based on the size and the position determined. A corresponding video coding apparatus and non-transitory computer-readable recording medium are also disclosed.

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a method of apportioning, by a processing system including a processor, a viewable area of a display screen into a main area and an application area; downloading, by the processing system, media content; displaying, by the processing system, the media content within the main area of the display screen; extracting, by the processing system, metadata from the media content; and providing, by the processing system, the metadata to an application, wherein the application: downloads information associated with the metadata provided in the media content, applies a bitrate limit to the downloading of the information to prevent interference with the downloading of the media content, generates display content based on the information, and sends the display content for displaying within the application area of the display screen concurrently with the media content being displayed in the main area of the display screen. A method of processing media data. The method includes determining, for a conversion between the media data and a media data file, that a preselection element includes an indicator, wherein the indicator indicates that a purpose of the preselection element is for providing a picture-in-picture experience where a supplementary video appears to be overlaid on a target picture-in-picture region in a main video; and performing a conversion between the media data and the media data file based on the indicator. A corresponding video coding apparatus and non-transitory computer-readable recording medium are also disclosed.

The present document describes a method (400) for personalizing audio content. The method (400) comprises receiving (401) a manifest file (140) for the audio content. The manifest file (140) comprises at least one adaptation set (281, 282) referencing an audio bitstream (121), where the audio bitstream (121) comprises a plurality of audio objects (181), and a plurality of different preselection elements (291, 292, 293) for the adaptation set (281, 282), wherein the different preselection elements (291, 292, 293) specify different combinations of the plurality of audio objects (181). The method (400) further comprises selecting (402) a preselection element (291) from the plurality of different preselection elements (291, 292, 293), and causing (403) rendering of an audio signal which depends on the selected preselection element (291).

Systems and methods for selecting a data delivery network are disclosed. The methods comprise requesting multimedia content delivery, the request comprising an indication of available bandwidth, receiving an indication of an expected performance threshold of a multimedia content item associated with the request for multimedia content, determining a fetch time for the multimedia content item to be delivered from a first data delivery network, and, in response to the fetch time being above the expected performance threshold, selecting a second data delivery network to deliver the multimedia content item.

Systems and methods for selecting a data delivery network are disclosed. The methods comprise requesting multimedia content delivery, the request comprising an indication of available bandwidth, receiving an indication of an expected performance threshold of a multimedia content item associated with the request for multimedia content, determining a fetch time for the multimedia content item to be delivered from a first data delivery network, and, in response to the fetch time being above the expected performance threshold, selecting a second data delivery network to deliver the multimedia content item.

A system and method for rendering a video stream for display on a display device, which may comprise receiving the video stream by streaming and generating display data defining a visible display area to be displayed by the display device, wherein generating of display data comprises rendering the video stream in a sub-area of the visible display area. A selection mechanism may be provided by which a version of the video stream may be selected for streaming having a spatial resolution and/or a bitrate which is selected based on a size of the sub-area.

Described are examples for streaming content at a device. One or more environmental parameters can be determined for the device. One or more parameters for receiving streaming content via one or more streaming servers over one or more network connections can be modified based on the one or more environmental parameters. The streaming content can be received based at least in part on the one or more streaming parameters.

A system and method for transmission of a video stream are provided. The system may include: an encoder adapted to generate a video stream comprising a plurality of encoded frames, encoded according to at least one encoding parameter; a comparator in communication with the encoder, the comparator adapted to compare encoded frames of the plurality of encoded frames with input frames to determine a fitness metric reflective of visual quality of the encoded frames; and a controller in communication with the comparator, the controller adapted to adjust the at least one encoding parameter based on the fitness metric.
