The first user can upload photos from electronic devices or from photo collections of community members before the second user receives the frame device. The frame is thus ready for display upon powering on by the second user. An integrated camera is used to automatically determine an identity of a frame viewer and can capture gesture-based feedback. The displayed photos are automatically shown and/or changed according to the detected viewers. The photos can be filtered and cropped at the receiver side. Clustering photos by content is used to improve display and to respond to photo viewer desires.

The processing hardware executes the software code to receive interaction data describing interactions by a user with content thumbnails, identify, using the interaction data, an affinity by the user for at least one content thumbnail feature, and determine, using the interaction data, a predetermined business rule, or both, content for promotion to the user. The software code further provides a prediction, using the trained ML model and based on the affinity by the user, of the desirability of each of multiple candidate thumbnails for the content to the user, generates, using the content thumbnail generator and based on the prediction, a thumbnail having features of one or more of the candidate thumbnails, and displays the thumbnail to promote the content to the user.

The server may determine that the contextual information is consistent with a predetermined contextual action. In some examples, the server may identify a dynamic profile photo associated with the predetermined contextual information; and present, in response to the determination that the contextual information is consistent with the predetermined contextual action, the dynamic profile photo to the one or more users.

When a request is received from a client device for playing a video asset, a plurality of video tiles of the video asset are selected to be assembled as a video frame for delivery to the client device. A portion of the video tiles are identified that can be replaced with a corresponding set of advertisement content tiles, e.g., based on gaze vector information and/or a tile metadata specification containing advertisement insertion availability timing information with respect to each of the tiles of the video frame. After replacing the portion of the identified video tiles, the corresponding set of advertisement content tiles and remaining video tiles are assembled into the video frame including the advertisement content tiles at select locations, which is transmitted to the client device.
