There is provided a video processing device that acquires a first image string and a second image string different from each other that are made up of a plurality of frame images extracted from a video of interest, that performs control such that the first image string is shown on a display device screen as an image string of interest, that causes the frame images included in the first image string to scroll in response to a scrolling operation by the user while the first image string is shown, and that switches the image string of interest from the first image string to the second image string if the scrolling operation satisfies a given determination condition.

An interactive, multi-user media delivery system having a number of media storage mediums, each of containing a particular media selection, and a number of media players structured to selectively deliver the media selection to users. Each of the media players includes a control assembly structured to selectively control and regulate delivery of the media selection to the user, and at least one of the media players is selectively designatable as a slave unit. A master control assembly is further provided and is operatively associated with the media players, a connectivity assembly being included to establish a communicative link at least between the slave unit(s) and the master control assembly. Described herein are systems and methods for hardware enforcement of hardware functionality in a television receiver. An activation message containing an activation code for a specific hardware component within the television receiver can be transmitted from a television service provider system to a television receiver having an associated smart card. The smart card can decrypt the activation message, security check the activation message, confirm the activation message is intended for the television receiver, encrypt the activation message with a local key, and transmit the activation message to a security processor on the television receiver. The security processor can decrypt the activation message, security check the activation message to ensure it is from the smart card and has not been tampered with, and enable the hardware component within the television receiver based on the activation code within the activation message.

Systems and methods for verifying an advertisement impression in a digital environment are provided. In some aspects, methods of the subject technology include operations for defining a portion of the digital environment as an impression area, wherein the impression area is associated with a tagged advertisement area, providing a stream of an advertisement to the tagged advertisement area, and updating advertising impression information stored in memory regarding the advertisement, wherein an advertising impression is based on the identification of the character within the impression area and the availability of an unobstructed line-of-sight between the character and the tagged advertisement area. A system includes a processor and a memory. The memory stores instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations including sending, via a transmitter, a primary video stream corresponding to a particular channel to a media device. The operations further include sending a secondary video stream to the media device. The secondary video stream is associated with a lower quality level than the primary video stream. Transmission of a frame of the secondary video stream is delayed with respect to transmission of a corresponding frame of the primary video stream.

A method and mechanism for automating user input in an interactive television system. An interactive application is conveyed concurrently with a broadcast programming stream in an interactive television system to a receiver. The interactive application is configured to provide added content to a television viewer upon a request by the viewer. In order to request the display of the available added content, a viewer may provide an indication that the use of a script is desired. Subsequently, a script corresponding to the interactive application is utilized to provide input to the interactive application in lieu of the viewer actively providing the input necessary to display the added content. In addition, a viewer may configure the receiver to indicate default preferences for the use of scripts. The receiver may then utilize a standardized script to provide input to interactive application having added content available for viewing. Further, a corresponding program, interactive application, added content, and script may be received and stored on a mass storage device. Subsequently, the stored material may be retrieved for display and execution.

If the application is the application for the external device, the information processing apparatus transfers the application to the external device to start it.

Once an individual has gained authorization with respect to a media stream's manipulation rights, they are allowed to manipulate the stream. In some embodiments, a provider controls a secure environment to play the stream and enforce the rights.

A method of processing media data. The method includes determining, for a conversion between a media data and a media data file, that a preselection element includes an indicator, wherein the indicator indicates which video data units of a main video represent a target picture-in-picture region; and performing the conversion between the media data and the media data file based on the indicator.
