SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR GENERATING MEDIA CONTENT
20230005265 · 2023-01-05 · ·

Techniques and systems are provided for generating media content. For example, a server computer can detect a trigger from a device located at a site. The trigger is associated with an event at the site. The server computer can obtain media segments of media captured by a plurality of media capture devices located at the site. At least one of the media segments corresponds to the detected trigger. The server computer can determine one or more quality metrics of a media segment based on a first motion of an object captured in the media segment and/or a second motion of a media capture device used to capture the media segment. A subset of media segments can be selected from the obtained media segments based on quality metrics determined for the obtained media segments. A collection of media segments including the subset of media segments can then be generated.

ADAPTIVE BITRATE STREAMING
20230239526 · 2023-07-27 ·

Systems and methods are described for performing adaptive bitrate (ABR) streaming. A user device may request a segment of a first version of a plurality of versions of a content asset from a content provider, and may receive the segment. An estimated time to receive a second segment of a second version of the content may be determined based on metrics associated with receipt of the segment of the first version and in a manner that takes into account latency with the network, such that a determination whether to switch to a higher or lower bitrate version of a content asset during ABR streaming may be more accurately made.

MANIFEST FILE UPDATING AND EARLY TERMINATION OF CONTENT
20230007366 · 2023-01-05 · ·

An information processing apparatus includes circuitry configured to receive a manifest file for a content stream, the manifest file including a manifest file update mechanism indicating one or more ways of receiving an update to the received manifest file. The circuitry is also configured to receive a manifest file update through the manifest file update mechanism indicated by the received manifest file. The manifest file update indicates that early termination of content during a period in the content stream is possible. The circuitry is also configured to send a request for the content associated with the period to a server based on the manifest file update, and receive the content from the server. The circuitry is also configured to output the content for display during the period and terminate the content early based on the manifest file update.

COMPUTER IMPLEMENTED METHOD FOR PROCESSING STREAMING REQUESTS AND RESPONSES
20230239328 · 2023-07-27 ·

A computer implemented method is provided for streaming media from a media server to a client web application running in a client web engine. The method involves, by the client web application, initiating a programmable network proxy in the client web engine. The method further comprises, by the programmable network proxy, intercepting a request from the client web application to retrieve the streaming media from the media server and/or intercepting a response comprising the streaming media from the media server. The method further includes, by the programmable network proxy, performing at least one of: i) injecting metadata into the intercepted request; ii) extracting metadata from the intercepted request; iii) injecting metadata into the intercepted response; and iv) extracting metadata from the intercepted response; and respectively forwarding the intercepted request to the media server and/or forwarding the intercepted response to the client web application.

Use of Steganographically-Encoded Time Information as Basis to Establish a Time Offset, to Facilitate Taking Content-Related Action

A method and system for using steganographically-encoded time information as a basis to control when a client carries out a content-related action. The client processes for presentation one or more linear media streams, each defining a respective time sequence of frames of media content, and at least one of the streams being steganographically encoded with at least one watermark at a respective time-point within the linear media stream, the watermark encoding a timestamp of the respective time-point within the linear media stream according to a server clock. The client extracts the timestamp from the watermark and computes a time offset based on a difference between the extracted timestamp and a current time according to a client clock. And the client uses the computed time offset as a basis to determine when the client should carry out a content-related action in a given one of the one or more linear media streams.

PERSONALIZED MEDIA STREAMS
20230239538 · 2023-07-27 ·

A method for providing a personalized media stream includes receiving a signal from a user to launch a personalized media stream, determining a current time, identifying a first time slot of a schedule into which the current time falls, identifying a first channel that is associated with the first time slot, wherein viewing history for the user indicates that the user has viewed the first channel during the first time slot in the past, automatically tuning the display device to the first channel in response to the signal, receiving, subsequent to the automatically tuning, a command from the user to pause a program playing on the first channel, identifying a second channel associated with a second time slot, wherein the second time slot occurs later in time that the first time slot, and buffering a portion of a program being shown on the second channel during the second time slot.

CONTENT-AWARE PROGRESS BAR
20230239539 · 2023-07-27 ·

In one example, a method for providing content-aware progress bar includes receiving a command from a user via an input device to present a visual media on a display device, retrieving a progress bar associated with the visual media, wherein the progress bar includes a plurality of sections, and where each section of the plurality of sections corresponds to one scene of a plurality of scenes of the visual media, and wherein the each section visually indicates a type of content contained in the one scene, a location of the one scene in the visual media, and a duration of the one scene, presenting the visual media on the display device, and displaying the progress bar on the display device in a manner that is time-synchronized to the visual media.

TRICK PLAY AND TRICK RATE SUPPORT FOR HLS
20230007340 · 2023-01-05 · ·

A method and system for rendering a HTTP Live Streaming video stream on a display includes a player receiving a master manifest from a network device in response to selecting a video channel. The player also receives a plurality of variant manifests referenced by the master manifest from the network device, where each of the variant manifests references video files each of which having a different bit rate for the same video stream. The player simultaneously maintains the variant manifests in the player. The player determines an effective start time of the video stream based upon the selecting video channel where the effective start time is a time later than an earliest time referenced in the plurality of variant manifests. The player enables reverse of the video stream based upon one of the variant manifests to as early as the effective start time and not enabling reverse of the video stream based upon one of the variant manifests to a time earlier than the effective start time.
