A system and method for controlling a native application and a second application. The second application may be launched in a mobile device for controlling an IPTV device. The method includes executing the native application that includes a first function to implement a device discovery process and a second function to designate a discovered device as a selected device. The second application is executed according to settings of the native application. For example, the native application may be set as a parent and the second application may be set as a child. The second application and the native application may be synchronized such that second application includes functions for controlling the selected device. Additionally, the native device may transmit information about the selected device to the second application.

The method comprises the steps of a data network connected device, accesses a reference file including a plurality of player control parameter values and linking data for one or more content sources. Play control commands are provided to the player based on the play control parameter values. A method of disseminating advertisements includes the step of transmitting to a media device (110) an embedded media player page for playing a media file. The embedded media player page allows a user of the media device (110) to create a bookmark for a browser. The bookmark points to the embedded media player page. The bookmark includes an address of the media file as a parameter. When the bookmark is used in the browser to play the media file, the embedded media player page instructs the media device (110) to request an advertisement from an advertisement server (104) for display in the embedded media player page.

A method of disseminating advertisements includes the step of transmitting to a media device (110) an embedded media player page for playing a media file. The embedded media player page allows a user of the media device (110) to create a bookmark for a browser. The bookmark points to the embedded media player page. The present technique can be applied, for example, to the case of applying HDR information to a subtitle having an SMPTE-TT format using XML.
