The selective devices may select a single optical channel by blocking some of wavelengths of light passing therethrough and passing at least one other wavelength. The selective devices may be wave blockers or tunable optical filters. The optical circuit further includes an optical amplifying array, wherein each amplifier has an input port optically coupled to one of the selective devices. At least some of the amplifiers have pump light ports for receiving at least a portion of the pump light from one or more laser pumps or from another of the optical amplifiers, wherein the pumps are capable of providing pump light sufficient to fully saturate all of the rare earth doped optical fibers in the array.
Routing band-pass filter for routing optical signals between multiple optical channel sets
Disclosed herein is a routing band-pass filter for routing optical signals between multiple optical channel sets. In particular, disclosed is a wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) optical assembly including a first WDM filter, a second WDM filter, and a first routing filter. The first and second WDM filter are in communication with first and second sets of channel ports, respectively. The routing filter has a routing passband and forms a primary routing optical path for signals outside the routing passband between the first WDM filter and a common port. The routing filter also forms a secondary routing optical path for signals within the routing passband between the second WDM filter and the common port. The routing band-pass filter increases the number of channel ports in optical communication with a common port while maintaining signal integrity and increasing speed.
Methods and systems relating to optical networks
Data center interconnections, which encompass WSCs as well as traditional data centers, have become both a bottleneck and a cost/power issue for cloud computing providers, cloud service providers and the users of the cloud generally. Fiber optic technologies already play critical roles in data center operations and will increasingly in the future. The goal is to move data as fast as possible with the lowest latency with the lowest cost and the smallest space consumption on the server blade and throughout the network. Accordingly, it would be beneficial for new fiber optic interconnection architectures to address the traditional hierarchal time-division multiplexed (TDM) routing and interconnection and provide reduced latency, increased flexibility, lower cost, lower power consumption, and provide interconnections exploiting NMD Gbps photonic interconnects wherein N channels are provided each carrying M wavelength division signals at D Gbps.
Optical switch device
A wavelength routing SW is a large-scale optical switch device of a conventional technique, and it requires as many wavelength-tunable light sources as the number of input ports. For the wavelength-tunable light sources to achieve a stable oscillating operation across a wide wavelength range, a complicated control mechanism is necessary. This has been an obstacle in providing a large-scale optical switch device in terms of cost and circuit scale. A wavelength routing SW in the present disclosure includes N wavelength group generators, a splitting-selection unit, and MN tunable filters. Each wavelength group generator includes M fixed-wavelength light sources. Inexpensive general-purpose devices that require no control mechanism for wavelength tuning can be used as the fixed-wavelength light source. The channel loss in the optical switch device can also be reduced by using light sources with a limited narrow range of tunable wavelengths and the wavelength-dependent output port selecting function of an AWG.
Alarm Correlation and Ticketing for Open Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer Networks
The concepts and technologies disclosed herein are directed to alarm correlation and ticketing for reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) networks. According to one aspect disclosed herein, a ROADM controller can create, based upon data associated with a plurality of ROADM network elements operating in a ROADM network, a graph of the plurality ROADM network elements. The ROADM controller can retrieve a plurality of alarms from at least a portion the plurality of ROADM network elements, associate the plurality of alarms with at least the portion of the plurality of ROADM network elements, and associate a direction of each alarm with a corresponding service direction. The ROADM controller can eliminate any alarms with a time stamp outside of a same time window. The ROADM controller can then determine that any remaining alarms are associated with a root cause of a failure within the ROADM network.
Spectrum resource configuration method, network device, and system
This application provides a spectrum resource configuration method, a network device, and a system. The method includes: A network device determines spectrum resources to be used by a to-be-opened channel, where the spectrum resources to be used by the to-be-opened channel include first spectrum resources and a second spectrum resource, the first spectrum resources are original spectrum resources of the to-be-opened channel, the second spectrum resource is some of original spectrum resources of an adjacent channel of the to-be-opened channel, and the original spectrum resources of the adjacent channel are adjacent to the original spectrum resources of the to-be-opened channel; and opens the to-be-opened channel based on the spectrum resources to be used by the to-be-opened channel.
Photonic integrated circuit and optical transmitter
A photonic integrated circuit includes a main light source, a redundant light source, a controller, an optical switch, and a modulator. The main light source outputs main light through a main light input waveguide. The redundant light source outputs redundant light through a redundant light transmission waveguide. The controller generates a first switch signal based on a fault state of the main light source. The optical switch selectively provides the redundant light from the redundant light transmission waveguide to a redundant light input waveguide based on the first switch signal. The modulator modulates main light from the main light input waveguide or redundant light from the redundant light input waveguide and outputs a first optical signal.
Intra data center optical switching
Methods and systems for intra data center optical switching of optical signals use an intra data center optical switch to optically transmit N optical wavelengths as an optical signal transmitting a data stream generated by a data center system included within N data center systems. The data center system may selectively receive one of N?1 optical wavelengths as another optical signal corresponding to one of N?1 other data center systems excluding the data center system from the intra data center optical switch. In this manner, intra data center optical switching may be performed without utilizing Ethernet and optical switches, which may result in reduced power consumption for data center communication.
