Modular Platform Electric Trench Heater

A trench heater includes a case, a connecting unit, and a sub-assembly unit. The sub-assembly unit includes a baffle, a first junction panel, a second junction panel, and an electrical heating unit. The electrical heating unit includes a heating unit that comprises a heating element, a body, and a granular heat transfer medium. Multiple trench heaters may be connected end to end to create longer lengths via a modular platform.

CABIN HEATER FOR VEHICLE

A cabin heater for a vehicle includes a frame with spaced apart longitudinal supports to locate a common electrical return and a power input. Pluralities of heating units extend between the supports and attach to the return and input. Each unit has a ceramic heater and one or more positive temperature coefficient (PTC) elements. The ceramic heater quickly and directly heats air and helps lower the inrush current of each PTC element upon initial powering. The power input also includes conductive rails spaced apart and electrically isolated from one another to individually supply power to either the ceramic heater or the PTC elements, but not both. Conductive extensions pass through the rails and fold into contact to power either the heater or the PTC elements. The electrical return commonly attaches the PTC elements and the heater, including a spring connection.

A frame-shaped casing joins the at least one PTC element, the conductor track, and the insulating layers as a unit. The frame-shaped casing has a leading frame member with elastic guide tabs which, in an initial assembly state, project on oppositely disposed sides of the frame-shaped casing over the heat-emitting open surface respectively associated with them, which are inclined obliquely from the leading frame member in a direction of the open surface, and which are elastically pivotable. During heating device assembly, the PTC heating device is centered and guided by the elastic guide tabs when introduced into a heating rib of a heating chamber.

An electrical load resistance includes a housing having at least one U-shaped receiving pocket, in which at least one PTC heating element is accommodated. The PTC heating element includes at least one PTC element and at least one contact plate electrically conductively connected to the PTC element for energizing the PTC element. The contact plate has a terminal lug for plug contacting the PTC element, and the PTC heating element abuts at least on opposite main side surfaces of the receiving pocket in a heat-conducting manner and projects beyond the terminal lug of the receiving pocket. The housing of the electrical load resistance is closed, and thus has no inlet or outlet openings for a medium to be heated. Also provided is a device with an electrical load resistance for reducing the starting time of an internal combustion engine, a method for reducing the starting time of an internal combustion engine, and a use of a PTC heating device as an electrical load resistance for reducing the starting time of an internal combustion engine.

A PTC thermistor module for a temperature control device may include at least one PTC thermistor element. The PTC thermistor element may include an upper side and an underside facing away from the upper side. The upper side and on the underside may be respectively applied in a heat-exchanging manner with a heat-conducting plate. An edge side, connecting the upper side and the underside with one another in an edge-side manner, of at least one of the PTC thermistor elements, may be applied to a heat-conducting element, which has a thermal conductivity of at least 5 W/mK. A temperature control device may include at least one such PTC thermistor module.
