An interrupting circuit (44) is configured to monitor for and detect a fault in a device (10) for generating a field of electromagnetic radiation (e-field) (34) from a radio frequency (RF) generator (24) configured to convert low voltage direct current (DC) into the e-field (34) for application to an article in the e-field (34). If a fault is detected, the interrupting circuit (44) interrupts low voltage DC between an energy reserve (46, 48) and the RF generator (24) within a predetermined time less than the time to dissipate energy stored in the energy reserve (46, 48).
Apparatus and method for sensing and processing by RF
Apparatus for processing an object includes a cavity for receiving therein the object. A plurality of processing antennas are configured to coherently feed the cavity with RF radiation generated by a processing RF source. A memory stores processing instructions for each object from a given group of objects. A user interface is configured to receive identification of an object to be processed from a user. A processor is configured to receive from the interface indication of the identification of the object, select a processing instruction based on the indication, and control the processing RF source to radiate according to the selected processing instruction. The energy processing instruction includes a plurality of excitation setups, each excitation setup of said plurality of excitation setups including amplitudes, each of which is associated with one of the plurality of antennas, and one or more phase differences associated with each two antennas associated with non-zero amplitudes.

The microwave heating may be carried out prior to a heat treatment of the meat-substance and/or may be carried out after slaughtering and before the fresh slaughtered meat-substance is frozen.
System and method for controlling a heating distribution in an electromagnetic cooking device
An electromagnetic cooking device is disclosed. The device comprises an enclosed cavity configured to receive a food load and a plurality of amplifiers configured to amplify a first RF signal and a second RF signal thereby supplying the RF signals to the enclosed cavity. A controller is in communication with the plurality of amplifiers. The controller is configured to control the first RF signal and the second RF signal along a stirring path between a first approximate resonant mode and a second approximate resonant mode of the enclosed cavity. Each of the resonance modes comprises a frequency and phase shift between the first RF signal and the second RF signal.

An example embodiment relates to a radiofrequency (RF) power amplifier pallet, and further relates to an electronic device that includes such a pallet. The RF power amplifier pallet may include a coupled line coupler that includes a first line segment and a second line segment that is electromagnetically coupled to the first line segment. A first end of the first line segment may be electrically connected to an output of an RF amplifying unit. The RF power amplifier pallet may further include a dielectric filled waveguide having an end section of the first dielectric substrate, an end section of the second dielectric substrate, and a plurality of metal wall segments covering the end sections of the first and second dielectric layers. The plurality of metal wall segments may be arranged spaced apart from the first line segment and electrically connected to a first end of the second line segment.

A microwave heating system includes: a power supply; a first semiconductor module configured to receive power from the power supply and to generate a first microwave; a second semiconductor module configured to receive power from the power supply and to generate a second microwave; a heating chamber that is configured to accommodate an object at an inside of the heating chamber and that allows transmission of the first microwave and the second microwave to the inside of the heating chamber; and a control unit. The control unit is configured to control operation of each of the first semiconductor module and the second semiconductor module, and to control at least one of a frequency, a phase, or a magnitude of each of the first microwave and the second microwave to increase a heating uniformity of the object.

A method of sensing at least one load parameter of a closed chamber by a sensing device by means of electromagnetic radiation is described, in which measurements of at least one measured variable are used. A first measurement is carried out when there is a first spatial distribution of the electric field generated by the electromagnetic radiation. At least a second measurement is carried out when there is a second spatial distribution of the electric field generated by the electromagnetic radiation, which differs from the first spatial distribution of the electric field.

The invention relates to method for preparing a foodstuff in a food processing system (100), the system comprising solid state radio frequency cooking means (51) that transmits an electromagnetic wave to a food substrate and a cavity where the food is cooked, the method monitoring the return power losses, which are the difference between the power emitted by the solid state radio frequency cooking means (51) and the reflected power in the cavity, for optimising the delivery of the radio frequency power to the food substrate by controlling and adjusting at least two parameters: the emitted frequency of the solid state radio frequency cooking means (51) and the distance of the cooking means (51) to the food substrate. In the method of the invention, the dielectric properties, the water content and/or the compaction of the food substrate are monitored throughout the preparation method.
