Ion source

An object of the present invention is to improve the safety and stability of an ion source by making a temperature distribution of a heated gas uniform while ensuring heat insulating properties. The ion source according to the present invention includes a gas introduction port inside a probe holder that holds an ion probe. A heater that increases the temperature of a heated gas and the gas introduction port are connected by a plurality of pipes which extend along an extending direction of the ion probe and are independent of each other (see FIG. 4).

NANOPARTICLE DETECTION THRESHOLD DETERMINATION THROUGH LOCAL MINIMUM ANALYSIS

Systems and methods are described for analyzing local minimum data from spectrometry data for the determination of nanoparticle detection thresholds are described. In aspects, a histogram of the spectrometry data is used to search for potential local minimum values, which are subsequently validated to establish a nanoparticle detection threshold for the spectrometry data, with ion intensity values less than the nanoparticle detection threshold being attributable to signal background.

Methods and systems for delivering a liquid sample to an ion source for the generation of ions and subsequent analysis by mass spectrometry are provided herein. In accordance with various aspects of the present teachings, MS-based systems and methods are provided in which a specimen may be received within an open port of a sampling probe and continuously delivered via a jet pump assembly to an ion source for subsequent mass spectrometric analysis.

MULTIPLE GAS FLOW IONIZER

An ionizer includes a probe having multiple coaxially aligned conduits. The conduits may carry liquids, and nebulizing and heating gases at various flow rates and temperatures, for generation of ions from a liquid source. An outermost conduit defines an entrainment region that transports and entrains ions in a gas for a defined distance along the length of the conduits. In embodiments, various voltages may be applied to the multiple conduits to aid in ionization and to guide ions. Depending on the voltages applied to the multiple conduits and electrodes, the ionizer can act as an electrospray, APCI, or APPI source. Further, the ionizer may include a source of photons or a source of corona ionization. Formed ions may be provided to a downstream mass analyser.

The other end of an individual sample supply channel one end of which is connected to a gas buffer container the inside of which is empty is connected to one sub-port of a valve that selects one of standard samples to be supplied to an ESI probe. During analysis, the standard sample stored in one of liquid sample containers is selected by switching a connection state of the valve. The standard sample supplied by being pushed by a gas sent to the liquid sample containers through liquid supply gas branch channels is sent to the ESI probe through a sample supply main channel. At the time of finishing analysis, when the valve is switched such that the sub-port and a main port are communicatively connected, a nitrogen gas is sent to the sample supply main channel, and the remaining liquid is discharged.

The present invention is directed to a method and device to generate a chemical signature for a mixture of analytes. The present invention involves using a SPME surface to one or both absorb and adsorb the mixture of analytes. In an embodiment of the invention, the surface is then exposed to different temperature ionizing species chosen with appropriate spatial resolution to desorb.

In a system for depositing a matrix film by nebulizing a matrix solution to a sample plate on which a sample is placed, a chamber is filled with a dry gas by supplying the dry gas into the chamber in a state where the sample plate is housed in the chamber (step S12), thereafter, the supply of the dry gas to the chamber is stopped (step S14), and in this state, a solution containing a matrix substance used for a matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization method is nebulized toward the sample plate (step S15). As a result, it is possible to enhance the extraction efficiency of the measurement target component in the sample into the matrix solution while suppressing the size of the crystal particles formed on the sample plate, and it is possible to stably achieve high spatial resolution and high detection sensitivity in mass spectrometry imaging.

Nebuliser outlet

A nebuliser outlet comprises an inlet end and an outlet end, a first channel and one or more second channels arranged between the inlet end and the outlet end. The first channel is configured to receive a capillary, and the one or more second channels are configured to pass gas to the outlet end. The nebuliser outlet is a single integrated component.
