In various embodiments, evaporation sources are heated and/or cooled via a fluid-based thermal management system during deposition of thin films.
DUAL LAYER PHOTOVOLTAIC DEVICE
A hybrid photovoltaic device (1) comprising a thin film solar cell (2) disposed in a first layer (21) comprising an array of vertically aligned nanowires (25), said nanowires having a junction with a first band gap corresponding to a first spectral range. The nanowires (25) form absorbing regions, and non-absorbing regions are formed between the nanowires. A bulk solar cell (3) s disposed in a second layer (31), positioned below the first layer (21), having a junction with a second band gap, which is smaller than said first band gap and corresponding to a second spectral range. The nanowires are provided in the first layer with a lateral density selected a such that a predetermined portion of an incident photonic wave-front will pass through the non-absorbing regions without absorption in the first spectral range, into the bulk solar cell for absorption in both the first spectral range and the second spectral range.

A layer structure for a thin-film solar cell and production method are provided. The layer structure for the thin-film solar cell includes a photovoltaic absorber layer doped, at least in a region which borders a surface of the photovoltaic absorber layer, with at least one alkali metal. The layer structure has an oxidic passivating layer on the surface of the photovoltaic absorber layer, which is designed to protect the photovoltaic absorber layer from corrosion.
PHOTOELECTRIC CONVERSION ELEMENT, PHOTOELECTRIC CONVERSION ELEMENT MODULE, PHOTOVOLTAIC CELL, AND PHOTOVOLTAIC POWER GENERATION SYSTEM
A photoelectric conversion element of an embodiment includes a first electrode, a second electrode, and a light absorbing layer, containing a chalcopyrite-type compound containing at least a group-Ib element, a group-IIIb element, and a group-VIb element, between the first electrode and the second electrode. The group-VIb element includes at least sulfur. An average sulfur atom concentration S1 in a side surface region of the light absorbing layer is higher than an average sulfur atom concentration S2 in an inside region of the light absorbing layer.
Methods of forming CIGS films
Methods for forming CIGS films are provided. According to an aspect of the invention, a method of forming a CIGS film includes a precursor step, which includes simultaneously evaporating Cu, In, Ga, Se, and Sb onto a substrate. The Se is incident on the substrate at a rate of at least 20 Å/s. The method also includes a selenization step, which includes evaporating Se over the substrate after the precursor step.
Method for recovering resource from CIGS thin-film solar cell
A method for recovering a resource from a CIGS thin-film solar cell to be recycled includes a) providing the CIGS thin-film solar cell, and b) subjecting the CIGS thin-film solar cell to a cooling treatment at a predetermined temperature, such that a light absorbing unit of the CIGS thin-film solar cell can be recovered due to thermal strain difference of materials of the CIGS thin-film solar cell.
METHOD FOR FABRICATION OF COPPER-INDIUM GALLIUM OXIDE AND CHALCOGENIDE THIN FILMS
A composition of matter having a coated silicon substrate with multiple alternating layers of polydopamine and polyallylamine bound copper-indium-gallium oxide (CIGO) nanoparticles on the substrate. A related composition of matter having polyallylamine bound to CIGO nanoparticles to form PAH-coated CIGO nanoparticles. A related CIGO thin film made via conversion of layer-by-layer assembled CIGO nanoparticles and polyelectrolytes. CIGO nanoparticles are created via a flame-spray pyrolysis method using metal nitrate precursors, subsequently coated with polyallylamine (PAH), and dispersed in aqueous solution. Multilayer films are assembled by alternately dipping a substrate into a solution of either polydopamine or polystyrenesulfonate and then in the CIGO-PAH dispersion to fabricate CIGO films as thick as 1-2 microns.
