This fuel cell stack activation method is a method for activating a fuel cell stack provided with a solid polymer-containing electrolyte membrane, an anode electrode, and a cathode electrode, the method comprising: a first current application step for applying a current by electrically connecting the two electrodes via an external electrical load in a state in which a potential difference is generated between the two electrodes by supplying air as a cathode-side gas to the cathode electrode while supplying hydrogen gas as an anode-side gas to the anode electrode; and a second current application step for applying a current by electrically connecting the two electrodes via an external electrical load in a state in which a potential difference is generated between the two electrodes by supplying nitrogen gas as a cathode-side gas to die cathode electrode while supplying hydrogen gas as an anode-side gas to the anode electrode.

ON-LINE MONITORING OF PROCESS/SYSTEM

Disclosed herein are methods and systems that relate to an on-line monitoring of a process/system by controlling rate of oxidation of metal ions at an anode in an anode electrolyte of an electrochemical process and controlling rate of reduction of the metal ions in a catalysis process to achieve steady state.

To provide a technique to suppress an excessive rise of pressure between two pressure reducing valves if the amount of fuel gas consumed by a fuel cell stack decreases. A fuel gas supply apparatus comprises: a gas passage in which fuel gas to be supplied to a fuel cell stack flows; a first pressure reducing valve provided to the gas passage; a second pressure reducing valve provided to the gas passage and disposed at a downstream side of the first pressure reducing valve; a setting module that sets a value of target pressure at a downstream side of the second pressure reducing valve, to a value depending on a consumed amount of fuel gas consumed by the fuel cell stack; and a modifying module that, if the consumed amount decreases by a prescribed amount or more, modifies the value of target pressure of the second pressure reducing valve to a value greater than a corresponding value that corresponds to the consumed amount subsequent to the decrease.

Air supply system for fuel cell and method of controlling same

An air supply system for a fuel cell includes: a fuel cell stack in which multiple unit cells are stacked and that generates electricity through chemical reactions, an air channel to supply incoming air containing oxygen to the fuel cell stack and to transfer air discharged from the fuel cell stack to the outside of the air supply system, and a gas adsorption unit that is disposed on the air channel, positioned near an outlet of the fuel cell stack, and adsorbs oxygen contained in the air introduced into the air channel.

INTEGRATED OPERATION OF MOLTEN CARBONATE FUEL CELLS

In various aspects, systems and methods are provided for operating a molten carbonate fuel cell at increased fuel utilization and/or increased CO.sub.2 utilization. This can be accomplished in part by performing an effective amount of an endothermic reaction within the fuel cell stack in an integrated manner. This can allow for a desired temperature differential to be maintained within the fuel cell.

PROACTIVE ANODE FLOODING REMEDIATION

A method for performing one or more proactive remedial actions to prevent anode flow-field flooding in an anode side of a fuel cell stack at low stack current density. The method includes identifying one or more trigger conditions that could cause the anode flow-field to flood with water, and performing the one or more proactive remedial actions in response to the identified trigger conditions that removes water from the anode side flow-field prior to the anode flooding occurring.

Rechargeable Battery Assembly for a Vehicle

A rechargeable battery assembly for a vehicle has a metal-air rechargeable battery and a filter device to condition inlet air supplied to the metal-air rechargeable battery such that the inlet air exhibits predetermined inlet air values. The filter device has one or more filter elements, one or more sensor devices that determine at least one inlet air parameter, and one or more valve devices. A control system is coupled to the sensor devices so as to receive sensor signals for the at least one inlet air parameter and is coupled to the valve devices. The control system adjusts, depending on the received sensor signals, the valve devices in order to control the predetermined inlet air value in that the inlet air is guided through the filter elements; is guided past the filter elements; or is guided to an air outlet for regenerating the filter elements.

Method for stopping fuel cell system and fuel cell system

A method for stopping a fuel cell system includes supplying a fuel gas containing a fuel to an anode of a fuel cell which is to generate electric power. An oxidant gas containing an oxidant is supplied to a cathode of the fuel cell. A concentration of the oxidant gas in the cathode is reduced. An output voltage of the fuel cell is lowered while a slope of a change in the output voltage with respect to elapsed time is controlled such that an output current of the fuel cell has a predetermined relationship with a predetermined current reference value.

FUEL CELL SYSTEM AND METHOD OF CONTROLLING FUEL CELL SYSTEM

When a temperature measured by a temperature measurer is below a specified temperature, a controller of a fuel cell system activates a fuel-gas-concentration increasing mechanism by using electric power of a secondary battery, and executes a fuel-gas-concentration increasing process for increasing the fuel gas concentration toward a first target concentration. When the fuel gas concentration reaches equal to or more than a second target concentration lower than the first target concentration, the controller starts power generation by a fuel cell to activate the fuel-gas-concentration increasing mechanism by using electric power from the fuel cell, and executes the fuel-gas-concentration increasing process until the fuel gas concentration reaches the first target concentration or more.

Fuel cell system

A fuel cell system includes: a fuel cell that includes an anode and a cathode and generates electricity by reducing a mediator at the cathode; a regenerator that oxidizes the mediator reduced by the cathode; a first path that leads from the cathode to the regenerator and through which the mediator reduced by and discharged from the cathode is guided to the regenerator; a second path that leads from the regenerator to the cathode and through which the mediator oxidized at the regenerator is returned to the cathode; and a first heat exchanger that exchanges heat between a first fluid and a second fluid, the first fluid being a fluid flowing in the first path and containing the mediator reduced by cathode, and the second fluid being a fluid flowing in the second path and containing the mediator oxidized at the regenerator.
