Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide for channel state information (CSI) feedback for multiple discrete Fourier transform (DFT) beams on multiple transmission layers. A user equipment (UE) may report a total number of non-zero power DFT beams across all of the transmission layers. The UE may be configured with a total number of leading beams (K.sub.total) across all of the transmission layers for which to provide high quantization feedback. When the total number of non-zero DFT beams across all the transmission layers exceeds the configured total number of leading beams across all the transmission layers, the UE may report high-resolution quantization feedback for K.sub.total non-zero power precoding coefficients having the highest amplitude coefficients, and may report low-resolution quantization feedback for the remaining non-zero power precoding coefficients. A base station may receive the CSI feedback to determine a precoding matrix.

CSI feedback overhead reduction for FD-MIMO

Mechanisms for reduction of channel state information (CSI) feedback overhead are disclosed for full dimensional multiple input, multiple output (FD-MIMO) systems with large dimension antenna ports. In one aspect, rank-dependent CSI antenna port measurements are used in order to limit the number of antenna ports for high rank CSI reporting. Another aspect allows a user equipment (UE) to select subband feedback for aperiodic CSI porting on an uplink shared channel when the UE is to report subband quality and precoding indicators. Another aspect provides for on-demand CSI feedback that dynamically configures CSI feedback parameters. To reduce the signaling overhead, the multiple parameter sets may be pre-configured with different values for dynamic reporting parameters.

A method involving a MIMO communications system including a phased array antenna for establishing communication with a terminal located within a domain, the method including: defining a plurality of sub-domains within the domain; for each sub-domain, defining a corresponding set of analog phase weights to be applied to the phased array antenna for directing beams towards that sub-domain; in succession, selecting each sub-domain among the plurality of sub-domains and for each selected sub-domain: (a) applying the set of analog phase weights for that selected sub-domain to the phased array antenna; (b) performing channel sounding with the terminal while that sub-domain is selected; and (c) receiving feedback from the terminal for that selected sub-domain; and after selecting all sub-domains and from the received feedback, identifying a best sub-domain and identifying a best precoding matrix that in combination with the best sub-domain provides a best communication channel for the terminal.

The method further includes transmitting, to a base station (BS), indices of the N′ bases included in the selected intermediate basis set and indices of the M.sub.l bases included in the selected basis subsets. Embodiments of this application provide a precoding matrix indication method, a communications apparatus, and a storage medium. A precoding matrix of each of K frequency-domain units satisfies W=W.sub.1×W.sub.2, and elements in W.sub.2 in the K frequency-domain units are represented by P elements that are relatively few. A terminal device reports third indication information, where the third indication information includes first indication information and the second indication information, and the first indication information and the second indication information are independently encoded. The first indication information is used to indicate the P elements, and the second indication information is used to indicate P. Therefore, the terminal device can adjust a quantity of information bits of the second indication information based on a channel condition change, thereby improving precoding matrix reporting efficiency.

Disclosed herein are a method and a device for transmitting an uplink channel in a wireless communication system. According to the present disclosure, a UE transmits to a base station information associated with uplink transmission supported by the UE and the UE information includes a subset including at least one transmit precoding matrix indicator (TPMI) supported by the UE. The UE may receive from the base station uplink transmission information including a TPMI for transmitting an uplink channel and transmit to the base station the uplink channel based on the uplink transmission information, and the uplink channel may be transmitted through full transmission power configured by the base station based on a case where the TPMI is included in the subset.

A method for operating a user equipment (UE) comprises receiving configuration information for a CSI report. The configuration information includes information to: configure a codebook and parameters for the codebook, the codebook comprising a precoding matrix indicator (PMI) indicating a set of components S to represent N.sub.3 precoding matrices, where N.sub.3≥1; and partition the PMI into two subsets, a first PMI subset indicating a first subset of components S1 from the set of components S, and a second PMI subset indicating a second subset of components S2 from the set of components S different from the first subset of components S1. The method further comprises determining the CSI report based on the configuration information, the CSI report including the second PMI subset indicating the second subset of components S2, and transmitting the determined CSI report over an uplink (UL) channel.

A method for a channel state information (CSI) feedback comprises receiving CSI feedback configuration information for the CSI feedback including a spatial channel information indicator based on a linear combination (LC) codebook, wherein the spatial channel information comprises at least one of a downlink channel matrix, a covariance matrix of the downlink channel matrix, or at least one eigenvector of the covariance matrix of the downlink channel matrix; deriving the spatial channel information indicator using the LC codebook that indicates a weighted linear combination of a plurality of basis vectors or a plurality of basis matrices as a representation of at least one of a downlink channel matrix, a covariance matrix of the downlink channel matrix, or at least one eigenvector of the covariance matrix of the downlink channel matrix; and transmitting over an uplink channel, the CSI feedback including the spatial channel information indicator.
