METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR SUPPORTING USE OF MULTIPLE BEAMS FOR COMMUNICATIONS PURPOSES
20210021452 · 2021-01-21 ·

Methods and apparatus for facilitating the use of a plurality of antenna beams for communications purposes are described. In at least some embodiments beam priority information is periodically exchanged. Multiple timers are used to ensure beam information is exchanged at intervals intended to facilitate reliable beam synchronization and to control switching to one or more alternative beams in a predictable manner in the event beam change information or beam synchronization information is lost. In some but not all embodiments a wideband beam is used to communicate beam synchronization information when synchronization using narrower beams used for normal data communication is lost.

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some examples, a user equipment (UE) may receive a control message indicating a set of sampling beams defined for the UE. The UE may measure a set of received signal strengths for communications from a wireless node associated with a set of linear combinations of sampling beams from the set of sampling beams defined at the UE. The UE may calculate a set of entries of a channel covariance matrix based on the set of received signal strengths of the set of linear combinations of the sampling beams from the set of sampling beams defined for the UE. As such, the UE may communicate with the wireless node based on applying a set of beam weights to an antenna array of the UE. In some examples, the set of beam weights may be based on the channel covariance matrix.

MIMO receiver that selects candidate vector set and operation method thereof

A receiver for receiving a signal including a plurality of symbols through a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) channel, and an operation method of the receiver are provided. The receiver includes a demodulator configured to calculate, for each physical channel, Euclidean distances of one or more of the received symbols with respect to all candidate vectors included in an initial candidate vector set and to output information about the Euclidean distances. A vector set detector may select, based on the information, one of a plurality of candidate vector sets having different sizes, as a subsequent candidate vector set for calculating a log likelihood ratio (LLR) of other symbols of the plurality of symbols or an LLR with respect to a second signal received following the first signal.

DYNAMIC ANTENNA SELECTION AND BEAM STEERING

A method performed by a user equipment (UE) configured with a plurality of antenna panels. Each antenna panel is configured to beamform over a millimeter wave (mmWave) frequency band. The method includes identifying a predetermined condition corresponding to a first antenna panel of the plurality of antenna panels, selecting a second antenna panel of the plurality of antenna panels based on identifying the predetermined condition corresponding to the first antenna panel and transmitting a beam via the second antenna panel based on the selection.
