20220311573 · 2022-09-29 ·

Systems, methods, apparatuses, and computer program products for feeder link data transport are provided. For example, baseband in-phase and quadrature (IQ) data may be processed at the transmitter and receiver of the feeder link. The orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) waveform used in a beam may be modified for transmission over the feeder link. For example, the waveform may have a wider subcarrier spacing (SCS) and may fill an enlarged bandwidth than otherwise with a feeder link.

METHOD FOR TRANSPARENT ON-BOARD ROUTING OF DATA PACKETS AT VERY HIGH BIT RATE IN A SPACE TELECOMMUNICATION SYSTEM USING A NETWORK OF AT LEAST ONE REGENERATIVE SATELLITE(S)
20170230105 · 2017-08-10 ·

A method for transparent on-board routing of data packets at high bit rate is implemented by a telecommunication system comprising an origin transmitting station, a first destination receiving station, a second destination receiving station, and a plurality of at least two satellites. The origin transmitting station segments high bit rate data streams into coded or uncoded packets each having the structure of a coded or uncoded DVB-S2 baseband frame BBFRAME; and the origin transmitting station inserts, for each segmented BBFRAME packet, coded or uncoded, an on-board routing label of a single piece respectively associated with the coded or uncoded BBFRAME packet. The on-board routing label contains an identifier of the destination receiving station associated with the coded BBFRAME packet, out of the first destination receiving station and the second destination receiving station.

ADAPTABLE, RECONFIGURABLE MOBILE VERY SMALL APERTURE (VSAT) SATELLITE COMMUNICATION TERMINAL USING AN ELECTRONICALLY SCANNED ARRAY (ESA)

Combinations of antenna types, which may include parabolic reflectors, electronically scanned arrays (ESAs), lens antennas and other directional antenna types enable a satellite ground terminal that is adaptable for use in multiple frequency bands such as C, Q, V, Ku, X and Ka bands, with satellites in various orbital configuration such as LEO, MEO, other non-GEO, and GEO, and in various user scenarios such as fixed, At the Quick Halt (ATQH), or On-the-Move (OTM). The VSAT or MVSAT of the invention does not require alteration or modification to support these multiple uses cases. As a result of this interoperability there are savings in unit cost and logistics. The system and method of the invention allow rapid reconfiguration of the ground segment of a satellite communication system to overcome loss of space segment assets, by enabling the inventive ground terminal to quickly transition to communicate with alternative satellites.

Dynamically Controlled Satellite Hub and Method of Operation

A system comprising an orbiting transponder in bilateral communication with a hub and a plurality of terminals. The hub automatically allocates power to the transponder based upon prequalification criteria, then dynamically adjusts an uplink carrier to noise ratio to prevent loss of weak signals. The system, and method of operation may further minimize variance in uplink adjustments according to a predictive algorithm.

METHOD FOR DETERMINING CONSTRAINTS OF A NON-GEOSTATIONARY SYSTEM WITH RESPECT TO ANOTHER NON-GEOSTATIONARY SYSTEM
20220271831 · 2022-08-25 ·

A method for determining operational constraints for a first constellation of non-geostationary satellites transmitting towards a terrestrial station with respect to a second constellation of non-geostationary satellites linked with the station, the constraints comprising a maximum transmission power of the satellites of the first constellation, the method comprising: determining triplets of limit values (θ, ϕ, I/N) of two angles (θ, ϕ) and of an interference-to-noise ratio (I/N), the angles (θ, ϕ) defining a position of a satellite of the first constellation relative to the station and to a satellite of the second constellation and the interference-to-noise ratio being the ratio between interferences (I) transmitted by the first constellation on a link between the station and the satellite of the second constellation and the noise (N) of the link, the determination of the triplets being performed so that a distribution of signal-to-noise and interference ratios (R) aggregated over a time interval is greater than a reference distribution; determining at least the maximum transmission power of at least one satellite of the first constellation from the triplets.

Beam hopping synchronization system
11239906 · 2022-02-01 · ·

An improved procedure and associated hardware to allow a satellite to switch antenna coverages according to predefined repetitive sequences and to align switching of the antenna sequence with ground data sequence switching. The principle of synchronisation of the sequence switching is based on the anticipation of the exact time at which change in beam hopping sequence occurs at the satellite, such that a change to a beam hopping sequence can be reflected in ground data sequence switching without losing connectivity between the satellite and ground segment.

CONTENTION-BASED DATA TRANSMISSIONS ON RETURN LINK
20170223735 · 2017-08-03 ·

Methods and apparatuses are disclosed for a user terminal (UT) to transmit data to a network controller via a satellite in a satellite system. The UT may begin transmitting, during a time period, a first portion of the data using contention-based resources of the satellite system prior to receiving a grant of scheduled return link resources of the satellite system. The UT may also transmit, on the contention-based resources, a buffer status report (BSR) during the time period. The UT may terminate data transmissions on the contention-based resources after an expiration of the time period or upon receiving the grant of scheduled return link resources. After receiving the grant, the UT may transmit a second portion of the data on the scheduled return link resources.

DATA IN MOTION STORAGE SYSTEM AND METHOD

A data storage system is disclosed that includes a recirculating loop storing data in motion. The data may be carried by a signal via the loop including one or more satellites or other vessels that return, for example by reflection or regeneration, the signals through the loop. The loop may also include a waveguide, for example an optical fiber, or an optical cavity. Signal multiplexing may be used to increase the contained data. The signal may be amplified at each roundtrip and sometimes a portion of the signal may be regenerated.
