A hand held instrument for harvesting a biopsy sample is provided. The instrument includes a housing, an annular blade on a distal end of said housing for cutting axially cutting a biopsy, a transverse blade unit for transversely cutting the biopsy, and a plunger unit positioned within the housing ejecting the biopsy sample away from inside the housing after said biopsy sample has been transversely cut.

Devices, systems, and methods for providing sealable access to a working channel

The present disclosure relates generally to the field of medical devices. In particular, the present disclosure relates to valve configurations providing sealable access for medical instruments to a working channel, such as a working channel for an endoscope.

A core needle biopsy device including a needle assembly, a cutter drive assembly, a piercer drive assembly and a piercer retraction assembly. The needle assembly includes a piercer and a hollow cutter. The piercer includes a sharp distal tip and a notch proximal to the distal tip. The piercer is slidably disposed within the cutter to sever a tissue sample into the notch. The cutter drive assembly is configured to selectively fire the cutter. The piercer drive assembly is configured to selectively fire the piercer. The piercer retraction assembly is configured to retract the piercer independently of the cutter while the needle assembly is disposed within a patient to expose the notch of the piercer to an exterior of a patient.

Sample retrieval tool with compliant retention member

The embodiments described herein can be used in a variety of sample retrieval, grasping, cutting, and manipulating operations. In some embodiments, an apparatus includes an elongated member and a retention member movably coupled to the elongated member. The elongated member includes a cutting portion configured to cut a target sample when moved, and defines an internal volume within which at least a portion of the target sample can be received. The retention member includes an engagement portion configured to move between a first position and a second position when the retention member is actuated. The engagement portion is configured to extend within the internal volume to exert a force on the target sample within the internal volume when the engagement portion is in the second position.

Biopsy System having Tissue Sample Impedance Measurement

A biopsy system includes a biopsy probe configured to sever tissue to acquire a tissue sample. The biopsy probe has biopsy needle portion having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen. A vacuum source is coupled to the lumen. The vacuum source is configured to generate a vacuum to transport the tissue sample through the lumen and expel the tissue sample from the lumen at the proximal end of the biopsy needle portion. An arrangement of compression plates is configured to receive the tissue sample from the proximal end of the biopsy probe and is operable to compress the tissue sample. The arrangement of compression plates has a plurality of impedance measurement electrodes. An impedance measurement circuit is connected to the plurality of impedance measurement electrodes.

TISSUE INCISION DEVICE

A minimally invasive tissue incision system for creating joint capsulotomies and releasing/incising various tissues, tendons, and fibrous band structures is described. The system contains a penetrating needle which is retractable so as to expose a cutting element, and which may be used as a penetrating needle to pierce the skin and other soft tissue structures. The cutting element provided within the penetrating needle may be used to incise subsequent tissue structures after the initial penetration. The system facilitates such procedures by providing the cutting element with the confines of the needle which provides safe introduction of the cutting element directly to the site via the needle.

Automatic biopsy gun

An automatic biopsy gun is described, the gun comprising a body and a needle cantileverly extending from the body. The needle comprises a stylet provided with a collecting hollow to collect a tissue sample, and a cannula in which the stylet is slidingly housed so that the collecting hollow can come out of the cannula and go back in it with a guillotine effect. The gun further comprises a pushing member to push the cannula and a pushing member to push the stylet, both being movable in the body between a forward position and a rearward position in order to slide the stylet with respect to the cannula. Elastic countering means counter the pushing members which are loaded by driving means operable by the user. Advantageously, pushing members are guided by inner guides that are inside the gun body and the guide of the cannula is closer to the needle than the guide of the stylet.

A biopsy and aspiration device that can include an outer cannula that has a plurality of apertures formed in an outer surface, a biopsy stylet insertable into the outer cannula having a beveled tip portion and slits formed in the main body, and an aspiration stylet also separately insertable into the outer cannula having a plurality of apertures formed in the main body and an optional sealing element associated therewith. One or more of the apertures of the aspiration stylet can be aligned with one or more of the apertures of the outer cannula.

Biopsy gun

A biopsy gun having a cannula and a stylet guided in the cannula comprises the following a housing, a cannula carriage for moving the cannula, a stylet carriage for moving the stylet, a tensioning grip for tensioning the cannula carriage and the stylet carriage from an initial position into a tensioning position, and an engaging member that is provided on the tensioning grip and has recesses adapted to engage with corresponding projections of the cannula carriage and the stylet carriage. The engaging member is rotatably attached to the tensioning grip and is biased by a spring against a contact surface of the housing.

Medical systems and methods

Tissue is resected and extracted from an interior location in a patient's body using a probe or tool which both effects resection and causes vaporization of a liquid or other fluid to propel the resected tissue through an extraction lumen of the resecting device. Resection is achieved using an electrosurgical electrode assembly including a first electrode on a resecting member and a second electrode within a resection probe or tool. Over a first resecting portion, radio frequency current helps resect the tissue and over a second or over transition region, the RF current initiates vaporization of the fluid or other liquid to propel the tissue from the resection device. In one embodiment, an extending element extends from a housing and into a channel in a resecting member as the resecting member moves toward a distal position.
