Time and margin constrained routing, spectrum, and restoration speed assignment in optical networks

A controller for an optical network includes a network interface configured to communicate to one or more nodes in an optical network that includes a plurality of nodes interconnected by a plurality of links; a processor communicatively coupled to the network interface; and memory storing instructions that, when executed, cause the processor to obtain information related to a plurality of services that require spectrum assignment with each service given a time-constraint T for restoration to a restoration path and each service on its home route given a margin-constraint X dB for transients caused by restoring channels, classify each of the plurality of services in terms of viable paths in the optical network, restoration speed each viable path can tolerate, and re-tunability, and assign a home route and a restoration route, a restoration speed, and spectrum for each of the plurality of services based on priority.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR ASSIGNING SPECTRAL RESOURCES

A method for assigning spectral resources comprises assigning spectral resources for a plurality of communication channels. The spectral resources for the plurality of communication channels comprise excess resources that are at least tentatively kept unoccupied. The excess resources of a plurality of communication channels are assigned to be spectrally contiguous.

The disclosure provides an interconnecting node for interconnecting first and second protected domains, the second protected domain comprising a working path and a protection path for linear protection in a network for traffic forwarding between two end-nodes. The interconnecting node comprises at least one interface for receiving first monitoring information from the first protected domain, a monitoring unit for detecting an isolation condition of the interconnecting node within the first protected domain based on the first monitoring information, and generating second monitoring information to be transmitted to the working path so that a failure in the working path is detectable based on the second monitoring information at a far-end node of the working path. If an isolation condition is detected, the monitoring unit starts transmitting alarm indication information to the working path for suppressing at the far-end node an alarm reporting regarding a failure in the working path.

CONFIGURABLE MEMORY STORAGE SYSTEM

Various embodiments for configurable memory storage systems are disclosed. The configurable memory storages selectively choose an operational voltage signal from among multiple operational voltage signals to dynamically control various operational parameters. For example, the configurable memory storages selectively choose a maximum operational voltage signal from among the multiple operational voltage signals to maximize read/write speed. As another example, the configurable memory storages selectively choose a minimum operational voltage signal from among the multiple operational voltage signals to minimize power consumption.

Method and system to synchronize remote defect signaling and wavelength selective switch controls

A system and method is disclosed in which circuitry of a first controller of a first node on a first path within a transport network receives a first signal indicating a failure within the first path from a second controller. The first node is an end node of the first path. A first client signal failure clear signal is received from a second node upstream of the first node on the first path. The first client signal failure clear signal indicates that a non-restorable fault has been resolved such that the first path can be considered for carrying data traffic. The non-restorable fault is a failure at the source. Subsequent to receiving the first signal indicating the failure within the first path, a backward defect indication clear signal is transmitted to the second node, the backward defect indication clear signal indicating an absence of a failure in the first path.

Systems and methods for mesh restoration in networks due to intra-node faults

Systems and methods are in a node in a network utilizing a control plane for triggering mesh restoration due to intra-node faults, and include monitoring at least one channel at a degree at a plurality of degrees associated with the node; detecting a fault on the at least one channel, wherein the fault is an intra-node fault upstream of the degree; and transmitting a channel fault indicator downstream of the fault to at least one downstream node along a path of the faulted channel, wherein restoration is triggered based on the channel fault indicator.

Routing and Regenerator Planning in a Carrier's Core Reconfigurable Optical Network

A multi-layer network planning system can determine a set of regenerator sites (RSs) that have been found to cover all paths among a set of nodes of an optical layer of a multi-layer network and can determine a set of candidate RSs in the optical layer for use by the links between a set of nodes of an upper layer, wherein each RS can be selected as a candidate RS for the links. The system can determine a binary path matrix for the links between the set of nodes of the upper layer. The system can determine a min-cost matrix that includes a plurality of min-cost paths. The system can determine a best RS from the set of candidate RSs and can move the best RS from the set of candidate RSs into the set of RSs for the links. The system can then update the binary path matrix.
