Cross-polarized control channels for loading fiber optic transport systems
A method of loading a fiber optic transport system includes adding one or more control channels to an optical fiber having one or more channels, wherein each of the control channels comprises a pair of signals that are cross-polarized and each of the pair of signals is at a different frequency from one another; measuring optical power on the optical fiber; and adjusting optical power of the one or more control channels based on the measured optical power.
GENERATING A PILOT TONE FOR AN OPTICAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM
The disclosure is directed to a method and system for generating a pilot tone for an optical signal with an optical telecommunications system. The pilot tone is generated in the digital domain by modulating the data to be transmitted to a destination node within the optical telecommunications network. The modulation of the data introduces occurrence modulation to the optical signal.

OPTICAL SIGNAL-PROCESSING APPARATUS, RECEIVING APPARATUS, AND OPTICAL NETWORK SYSTEM
An optical modulator combines and inputs a signal light propagating through the optical network and a control light having information concerning the optical network to a nonlinear optical medium. The optical modulator modulates the signal light according to changes in intensity of the control light, in the nonlinear optical medium.
Transient and switching event stabilization of fiber optic transport systems
A method and system for transient and switching stabilization of a fiber optic transport system. One or more data-bearing channels are coupled to an optical fiber. The data-bearing channels are distributed among a plurality of frequency sub-bands. A set of control channels is also coupled to the optical fiber. Each control channel includes a pair of signals at separate frequencies. There is at least one control channel in each of the plurality of frequency sub-bands. The pair of signals of a control channel are cross-polarized. Optical power in at least one of the plurality of sub-bands is measured. Responsive to the measured optical power, the optical power of a control channel is adjusted to maintain a substantially constant power of a sub-band that contains the adjusted control channel.
Method and system for removing a pilot tone from an optical signal
The present applies to digital wavelength converters that convert, independently of the format in which optical data may be encoded, an input waveform at a first wavelength to an output waveform at a second wavelength. When operating in an environment where an input waveform has a pilot tone associated thereto, the method and system of the present disclosure allows for the removal of the pilot tone from the input waveform, and also allows for the addition of another pilot to the output waveform.

The optical modulator modulates the signal light according to changes in intensity of the control light, in the nonlinear optical medium.
OPTICAL TRANSMISSION DEVICE AND OPTICAL TRANSMISSION SYSTEM
An optical transmission device includes: a plurality of optical transceivers; a wavelength selective switch; and a controller configured to control the plurality of optical transceivers and the wavelength selective switch. Each of the optical transceivers includes a wavelength tunable light source. The controller controls a wavelength of a wavelength tunable light source of a selected optical transceiver according to a wavelength of an optical signal received by the destination remote device. The controller controls the wavelength selective switch so as to generate the WDM optical signal from a plurality of optical signals generated by the plurality of optical transceivers, and to guide the plurality of optical signals received from the plurality of remote devices to the plurality of optical transceivers according to wavelengths of the received plurality of optical signals.
