Edge optimized transrating system
A system and method for bandwidth management by controlling the bit rate of a signal stream in real time according to available link bandwidth. Applications include multiple-channel video data streams over a limited-bandwidth link such as a Digital Subscriber Line. A video signal is transrated at the head end to multiple streams having different bit rates, by a multirating device which sends the multiple streams over a network, along with metadata containing information about the data structure and parameters of the streams. At the network access edge, a demultirating device uses the metadata to select the stream with the highest video quality whose bit rate does not exceed the available bandwidth of the end-user's access link. This scheme provides multiple unicast signals to different end-users in place of a single multicast signal, supports multiple high-definition channels over a limited bandwidth link, and is compatible with standard encryption methods.
Packaging content for delivery
Systems and methods for delivering content to user equipment are described. The content may be delivered using Internet Protocol (IP) delivery, Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) delivery, or another delivery format. For example, the system may receive content including a plurality of segments. The system may use manifest data to identify each of the plurality of segments. The system may also use the manifest data to generate index data for the plurality of segments, and the index data may be delivered to user devices with the plurality of segments. In some aspects, the system may use location information (e.g., timestamps, such as program clock references) for one or more data packet of the one of the plurality of segments to generate location information for other data packets.

System and method for implementing extension of customer LAN at provider network service point
Novel tools and techniques might provide for implementing extension of customer local area networks (“LANs”) and/or implementing isolated service overlays over a network. In some embodiments, a network service point that is located external to a demarcation point at each of a plurality of customer premises might establish a connection between a service provider network and a customer LAN, which has already been established within a customer premises. The system subsequently extends the customer LAN, via this connection, to span between the network service point and the customer premises. Alternatively, or additionally, the system might establish two or more isolated service overlays across the customer LAN between the network service point and the customer premises, each of the two or more isolated service overlays having network traffic that is isolated from network traffic transmitted along another of the two or more isolated service overlays.
Downstream modem channel analysis and allocation system and method
A system and method for identifying a viable channel within an allocated downstream spectrum and establishing communication via a modem thereon. The disclosed technology provides for the broadband analysis of some or all of the available downstream spectrum to obtain a mapping of available channels and directing the modem to establish downstream communication upon at least one of these channels. The system includes an interface via which a user can specify parameters governing the analysis of the available downstream spectrum and the identification of a viable downstream channel.

In accordance with embodiments disclosed herein, an exemplary system or computer implemented method for implementing the virtualization of access node functions may include, for example: a memory to store instructions for execution; one or more processors to execute the instructions; a control plane interface to communicably interface the system with an access node over a network, in which the access node is physically coupled with a plurality of broadband lines; a virtualized module to provide a virtualized implementation of a plurality of functions of the access node at the system, in which the virtualized module executes on a virtualized computing infrastructure; the control plane interface of the system to receive current operational data and current operating conditions for the plurality of broadband lines from the access node; the virtualized module to update the virtualized implementation of the plurality of functions of the access node at the system according to the current operational data and the current operating conditions received from the access node; an analysis module to analyze the current operational data and the current operating conditions received from the access node; an instruction module to generate control parameters to affect operation of the access node based on the analysis of the current operational data and the current operating conditions received; and the control plane interface to send the control parameters to the access node for adoption at the access node. Other related embodiments are disclosed.
Signal processing method, apparatus, and system
Embodiments of the present invention provide a signal processing method, including: dividing a frequency band used to send a downlink synchronization symbol into at least two parts of frequency bands that do not overlap, where the two parts of frequency bands are a first frequency band and a second frequency band; alternately allocating frequencies in the first frequency band to a probe tone and a flag tone; and allocating all frequencies in the second frequency band to a probe tone; and modulating a downlink pilot sequence to probe tones in the first frequency band and the second frequency band, and sending the downlink pilot sequence to a peer device. The embodiments of the present invention further provide a signal processing apparatus and a network system.

Packet forwarding method and device for a virtual private wire service (VPWS) pseudo wire (PW) network using traffic balancing
A packet forwarding method, a device, and a system, where a first provider edge (PE) device separately sends request packets to a second PE device and a third PE device. The second PE device receives the two request packets separately using a primary pseudo wire (PW) and using a secondary PW, the third PE device, and a bypass PW, switches preferential forwarding statuses relative to the primary PW and the bypass PW to a balance state, and then, notifies the first PE device and the third PE device using a response packet. The first PE device switches preferential forwarding statuses relative to the primary PW and the secondary PW to the balance state based on the response packet. The third PE device switches a preferential forwarding status relative to the bypass PW to the balance state based on the response packet.
