Apparatus and methods for enabling location-based services within a premises
Apparatus and methods for enabling location identification and related services in a premises. In one embodiment, location identification services are provided via a gateway device using data extracted from a wireless signal. The data is used to estimate a location of a device (based on comparison to previously gathered and/or reference data). In another embodiment, infrared (IR) or other short range wireless signals are broadcast from the client devices to a set-top-box (STB), and the STB or gateway correlates the signals to a location within the premises. A profiling process is used to establish specific locations within a premises, and associate location-specific services therewith. The location-based services include for example (i) loading particular applications and/or content when the user enters a particular location, (ii) providing information and/or advertisement opportunities when the user is near a particular public or business location, and (iii) content delivery optimization among multiple user devices.
PROVIDING USER SUBSCRIPTION NOMADICITY IN WIRELINE BROADBAND NETWORKS
In general, techniques are described for providing user nomadicity in wireline broadband networks. A network device positioned in a wireline broadband network comprising a processor and an interface may be configured to perform the techniques. The processor may be configured to execute a first virtual customer premises equipment to provide, to a first subscriber, access to the wireline broadband network from a first subscription point in accordance with a first subscription. The processor may also be configured to provide, to a second subscriber, access to the wireline broadband network from the first subscription point in accordance with a second subscription. The interface may be configured to forward, in accordance with the first subscription, traffic received from the first subscription point and associated with the first subscriber, and forward, in accordance with the second subscription, traffic received from the first subscription point and associated with the second subscriber.
Virtual Media Service
A virtual music service receives an identifier for a media program from a voice agent, queries a first media service and a second media service for the media program, and receives a first response from the first and/or second media service including access information for the media program. One of the first and second media services is selected according to the response based on a predetermined selection criteria. The virtual music service provides the access information for the media program from the selected media service to the media rendering device.
System and method for a subscriber-powered network element
A system for powering a network element of a fiber optic wide area network is disclosed. When communication data is transferred between a central office (CO) and a subscriber terminal using a network element to convert optical to electrical (O-E) and electrical to optical (E-O) signals between a fiber from the central office and twisted wire pair, coaxial cable or Ethernet cable transmission lines from the subscriber terminal, techniques related to local powering of a network element or drop site by the subscriber terminal or subscriber premise remote powering device are provided. Certain advantages and/or benefits are achieved using the present invention, such as freedom from any requirement for additional meter installations or meter connection charges and does not require a separate power network.
Method and apparatus for enabling data path selection in a virtual home gateway
Embodiments of the present disclosure include methods and apparatuses for enabling data path selection. In an EPG, ILNP mobility signaling is received. The ILNP signaling may include a destination locator for a BNG. A signaling message is sent to the BNG in response to the received ILNP signaling. An acknowledgement is received from the BNG. Traffic is tunneled between a mobile device and a RGW over a LTE interface. In a BNG, a signaling message is received. A message is sent to a SDN controller. A notification is received from the SDN controller that configuration of a RGW to tunnel traffic over a LTE interface is complete. An acknowledgement is sent to an EPG. In a RGW, a message is received from a SDN controller. Traffic is tunneled between a NAS and an EPG over a LTE interface based on the message received from the SDN controller.
System for providing access to the internet
A system for providing access to the internet, comprises a network of routers (R) hereinafter designated “new routers”) wherein each new router (R) has a CPU (112) that has, or is associated with, a public area (142) that allows simultaneous access to the new router's CPU by more than one user account. The system is so arranged that a pre-registered user with a user account identified by an identifier, typically a user name and/or password, can access the internet from any new router (R) in the network by connecting to the public area (142) of the new router's CPU (112) and entering the account identifier of the pre-registered user account.
CABLE MODEM TERMINATION SYSTEM
A system, in one embodiment, includes a cable modem termination system configured to perform at least the following processing: determining a first quantity related to uncorrectable erroneous codewords and a second quantity related to other codewords except the erroneous codewords in the data packet received by the cable modem termination system from the terminal device via the channel; calculating a first metric relating the first quantity to the second quantity; and in response to the first metric exceeding a first threshold for a first predetermined time, determining the channel as a damaged channel.
PREVENTION OF UNAUTHORIZED MIGRATION OF WIRELESS ACCESS POINTS ACROSS SERVICE PROVIDERS
A server device includes a memory; and a processor configured to execute instructions stored on the memory to cause the server device to obtain unique data associated with a network device, store, into the memory, at least one of a first key and a first seed, the first key being associated with the network device and being based on the unique data, the first seed being associated with the network device, being based on the unique data, and for use to create a second key, obtain user information identifying a user to be associated with the network device, store, into the memory, the association of the user with the network device, obtain service provider information identifying a first service provider to provide service to the user via the network device, and store, into the memory, the association of the first service provider with the network device.
Service provisioning method, device, and system in coaxial cable system
Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a service provisioning method in a coaxial cable system, the method comprises: a CMC receives a DHCP Ack message from a DHCP server and replaces an address of a TFTP server in the DHCP Ack message with an IP address of the CMC; the CMC sends the DHCP Ack message carrying the IP address of the CMC to the CM; and the CMC receives a request message from the CM for delivering a configuration file, acquires a configuration file corresponding to the CM, and after converting the configuration file corresponding to the CM into a format identifiable by the CM, sends the configuration file to the CM.
Methods and apparatus for controlling and implementing firewalls
Methods and apparatus for implementing and controlling a firewall in a router, e.g., a home router, are described. Network traffic through a router is monitored and analyzed the network to identify devices and the type of one or more of the identified devices. In some embodiments, the device type identification is performed using a neural network. The router stores a set of firewall templates. At different times a different templates are applied, e.g. based on mode of operation, user selection, and/or time information. Rules in a firewall template, applicable at a given time to traffic corresponding to identified devices, that are attempting to send or receive via the router, are applied. Different rules may, and sometimes do, apply to different device type classifications.
