METHOD FOR OPERATING A SURGICAL STAPLING SYSTEM
A surgical instrument system is disclosed which comprises a distal end and a staple cartridge assembly comprising staples removably stored therein. The instrument system further comprises a firing drive including an electric motor and a firing member operably couplable with the electric motor. The electric motor is operable to advance the firing member toward the distal end during a staple firing stroke to eject the staples from the staple cartridge. The electric motor is operable to retract the firing member away from the distal end during a retraction stroke. The surgical instrument system further comprises a manually-operated bailout mechanism operable to perform the retraction stroke in lieu of the electric motor, a controller, and a display in communication with the controller. The controller is configured to display the progress of the retraction stroke when the firing member is being manually retracted by the bailout mechanism.
ARTICULATING MEDICAL INSTRUMENTS
Articulating medical instruments and corresponding techniques can be utilized using a robotically enabled medical system. In a surgical method, a clinician can insert a distal end of a medical instrument into a treatment area of a patient. Once inserted, a first bending section of the medical instrument can be articulated by driving one or more motors of an articulation handle that is positioned at a proximal end of the elongated shaft.
Deployable bellows for delivery of a flexible, elongate device and methods of use
An origami bellows includes a plurality of layers including a support layer having a diameter that remains fixed irrespective of axial expansion or compression of the origami bellows. The origami bellows may be used as an anti-buckling device providing lateral support to a catheter or other elongated medical instrument.
Compression capable annular frames for side delivery of transcatheter heart valve replacement
The invention relates to a transcatheter heart valve replacement (A61F2/2412), and in particular Compression Capable Annular Frames for a side delivered transcatheter prosthetic heart valve having a annular support frame having compressible wire cells that facilitate rolling and folding the valve length-wise, or orthogonally to the central axis of the flow control component, allowing a very large diameter valve to be delivered and deployed to the tricuspid valve from the inferior vena cava or superior vena cava, or trans-atrially to the mitral valve, the valve having a height of about 5-60 mm and a diameter of about 25-80 mm, without requiring an oversized diameter catheter and without requiring delivery and deployment from a catheter at an acute angle of approach.
Circular stapling system comprising an incisable tissue support
A surgical instrument comprising an end effector is disclosed. The end effector comprises a staple cartridge including a cartridge body comprising an annular array of staple cavities, staples removably stored in the staple cavities, a firing drive configured to eject the staples from the staple cavities, and a cutting member circumscribed by the staple cavities. The end effector further comprises an anvil including a tissue compression surface, forming surfaces configured to deform the staples and a tissue block for controlling the flow of tissue. The anvil is movable toward the cartridge body to compress tissue between the cartridge body and the tissue block during a closure stroke and the cutting member is configured to incise the tissue and the tissue block during a cutting stroke of the cutting member. The tissue block holds the tissue in position while it is being incised.
Flexible surgical instrument with structural bones in a crossed arrangement
A flexible surgical instrument has structural backbones in crossed arrangement, the flexible surgical instrument includes a flexible continuum structure comprising a distal structure, a proximal structure and a middle connection body; the distal structure includes a first distal segment and a second distal segment, the proximal structure includes a proximal segment; first segment structural backbone(s) on the proximal segment and first segment structural backbone(s) on the first distal segment are fixedly connected respectively one to one or are of the same structural backbone; second segment structural backbone(s) on the proximal segment and second segment structural backbone(s) the second distal segment are fixedly connected respectively one to one or are of the same structural backbone; the middle connection body includes two passage fixing plates, between which structural backbone guiding passage(s) and structural backbone cross guiding passage(s) are fixedly connected; the first segment structural backbone(s) (163, 123) extends through the structural backbone cross guiding passage(s) (153), the second segment structural backbone(s) extends through the structural backbone guiding passage(s).
SURGICAL APPARATUS
The disclosure provides a surgical apparatus comprising: a steerable member that is bendable and comprises a plurality of bending segments with channels therein; and a plurality of bending actuation wires that are arranged to pass through the steerable member and cause the steerable member to bend, the steerable member comprising at least one outwardly opening lumen through which the bending actuation wires pass.

INSTRUMENT FOR SURGICAL ASSISTANCE ROBOT
An instrument for a surgical assistance robot is provided with a bending structure that enables a joint function part to be bent and is provided with an outer coiled part formed of a wire wound in a coiled shape and an inner coiled part formed of a wire wound in a coiled shape and arranged in the outer coiled part, wherein the outer coiled part has a plurality of gaps to distance adjacent coils, and coils of the inner coiled part are provided so as to correspond to the gaps of the outer coiled part and fit between the adjacent coils while being in contact with the adjacent coils of the outer coiled part.
Articulating medical instruments
Certain aspects relate to articulating medical instruments and corresponding systems and techniques. An articulating medical instrument can include an elongated shaft having two shaft sections and a bending section positioned therebetween. The instrument can include an articulation handle positioned at a proximal end of the shaft, and one or motors positioned within the articulation handle and configured to articulate the first bending section. The instrument can also include an insertion handle coupled to the shaft that enables translation of the shaft relative to the insertion handle.
