Some deflectable guide catheters of the present invention comprise a substantially rigid tube, a helical spring attached to and extending from the distal end of the substantially rigid tube, a tubular plastic inner jacket, an outer plastic jacket substantially covering at least the helical spring member. The spring member is deflectable to cause the distal portion of the guide catheter to deflect to a curved configuration. In embodiments for transnasal use the deflectable guide catheter may have a length of less than 25 cm.

Braided hemostasis shaft for improved torsional response

A medical insertion device includes an elongated shaft extending from a proximal end to a distal end and having flexibility sufficient for insertion through a working channel of an endoscope along a tortuous path. The elongated shaft includes a coil extending from the proximal end to the distal end and having a channel extending longitudinally therethrough and a braided portion extending around a portion of the coil, the braided portion including a plurality of lines wound together such that first and second ones of the lines intersect to enclose a predetermined angle therebetween, the angle being between 25 and 55 degrees.

DEVICE FOR DELIVERING GRAFTS AT A SURGICAL SITE AND METHOD

A device and method for delivering a synthetic mesh or graft for anatomical repair at a defect site. A plurality of flexible arms is connected to the synthetic mesh or graft. Grasping jaws are individually controlled at or near a proximal end of the device for connection of the graft and release of the graft at the surgical site. The flexible arms, with graft attached are positioned through a surgical incision to the defect site. An actuator positions the flexible arms to assume a radial array at the surgical site, unfolding and spreading the graft for attachment. The length of each flexible arm is individually adjustable to adapt to the size and shape of the graft selected for installation at the defect site to repair the defect.

Interventional medical systems, catheters, and methods

A device receptacle of a catheter resides in a sidewall thereof, which includes a proximal section, a central section extending distally from the proximal section, and a distal section extending distally from the central section. A length of the central section is approximately 30% of an overall length of the sidewall; the proximal and distal sections have approximately the same stiffness; and a stiffness of the central section, formed from a polymer material without any structural reinforcement or any other member embedded therein, is significantly less than that of the proximal and distal sections. When an operator causes the receptacle sidewall to buckle, a distal opening of a chamber of the receptacle becomes aligned with an implanted device so that the operator can bring the implanted device into the chamber to retrieve the device from the implant site.
