Described are various embodiments of a digital display device for use by a user having reduced visual acuity. In one embodiment, the device comprises: a digital display medium comprising an array of pixels and operable to render a pixelated image accordingly; a light field shaping layer defined by an array of light field shaping elements and disposed relative to said digital display so to align each of said light field shaping elements with a corresponding set of said pixels to shape a light field emanating therefrom and thereby at least partially govern a projection thereof from said display medium toward the user; and a hardware processor operable on pixel data for the image such that said processed image is rendered to at least partially compensate for the user’s reduced visual acuity.

An example may include a display in which a display area of the display is expandable and retractable, a memory, and a processor operatively connected to the display and the memory, wherein the memory includes instructions causing, when executed, the processor to: display an execution screen of a running application on the display area at a first magnification value; expand the display area on the basis of a first designated input; based at least in part on the first designated input, information related to the application, and a first user content included in the execution screen, determine whether to maintain a display magnification of the display at the first magnification value or change the display magnification to a second magnification value different from the first magnification value; and display the execution screen on the expanded display area based on the determined display magnification.

Content Resolution Adjustment for Passive Display Devices
20210312889 · 2021-10-07 ·

Methods and systems for content resolution adjustment for passive display devices are described herein. Passive display devices such as a passive magnifying device (e.g., a screen magnifier) or a projector (e.g., a built-in mobile phone projector) are useful in enlarging photos, documents, videos, etc. for view for small-sized small-screen device screens. However, optimal content resolution for the small-screen device screens may not be optimal for the passive display devices. Particularly, when a small-screen device receives content from a remote computing device, the initial content resolution may not be optimal even for the small-screen device screen because of low transmission speed and/or low bandwidth of a connection with an original data source. Content resolution adjustment is provided in this disclosure by determining distance between the passive display device and the small-screen device, calculating magnification ratio for the passive display device, and adjusting the content resolution based on the calculated magnification ratio.

Smart phone magnifier assembly

A smart phone magnifier assembly for magnifying imagery displayed on a smart phone includes a magnifying screen that has a width ranging between approximately 3.0 inches and 5.0 inches and a length ranging between approximately 5.0 inches and 8.0 inches. In this way the magnifying screen can fit on a screen of a smart phone thereby facilitating the magnifying screen to magnify and thusly enhance visibility of imagery displayed on the screen. An adhesive layer is bonded to the magnifying screen for adhesively engaging the smart phone screen. Thus, the adhesive layer releasably retains the magnifying screen on the smart phone screen.

Hand-held devices combine smartphones and electronic binoculars. In “in-phone” embodiments, binocular functionality is integrated directly into the housing or body of a smartphone modified in accordance with the invention, whereas, in “in-case” embodiments, the binoculars are integrated into a case to receive a smartphone which may be of conventional design. In either case, components within the phone may be used for image manipulation, image storage, and/or sending and receiving/streaming stereoscopic/3D motion imagery. The objective lenses for the binoculars are preferably supported on or in one of the longer side edges of the phone or case, whereas the display magnifying eyepieces are preferably associated with the opposing longer side edge of the phone or case. As such, in use, a user holds the phone or case in a generally horizontal plane during use as binoculars.
