A method for converting a facsimile includes receiving the facsimile via the public-switched telephone network, generating an enhanced portable document format (EPDF) file that includes information in addition to image information and communicating the EPDF file to an e-mail server. The EPDF file can then be communicated as an attachment to an e-mail message addressed to the intended recipient of the facsimile. A facsimile processing system includes a public-switched telephone network interface, a packet-switched network interface, a mail transfer protocol server, an input agent, a job processor and a translator. The input agent identifies and forwards the incoming facsimile to the job processor. The job processor determines when an EPDF file is desired and communicates appropriate instructions to the translator. The translator generates the EPDF file in response to the instructions and the image information from the facsimile. The translator integrates signatures and repositionable notes in outbound facsimiles.

The Remote FAX Interconnect known as etherFAX is a system and method that allows for the reception and delivery of information to or from one or more facsimile systems using Internet/web based communication protocols such as HTTP(S) as the transport between a cooperating facsimile capable application or hardware and the remotely accessible etherFAX services.

An image processing apparatus having a transmission function for transmitting image data includes a reader that reads a document to generate image data, a memory device that stores instructions, and a processor that executes the instructions stored in the memory device. The instructions are executed to execute a transmission job for transmitting the image data generated by the reader, set a first setting for not printing a transmission report representing a transmission result of the transmission job to the image processing apparatus as a device setting of the image processing apparatus, and set a second setting for printing the transmission report to the transmission job as a setting for a transmission job. The transmission report is printed in accordance with the first setting being set to the image processing apparatus and the transmission job to which the second setting is set being executed.

A data transmission apparatus including a plurality of transmission functions, comprises: a holding unit configured to hold an address book; a communication unit configured to communicate with a plurality of management servers; a first management unit configured to manage each of the plurality of transmission functions in association with an address book available in data transmission; a second management unit configured to manage, for each of the plurality of transmission functions, a setting of whether a new destination is registrable with the address book held by the holding unit; and a providing unit configured to provide a registration screen for registering the new destination with an address book. The fax connector can be accessed at the user's site over a computer based network in order to perform functions associated with faxing, including sending, receiving and obtaining status on faxes. The fax connector deployed at the user's site communicates with the remotely deployed faxing system to send, receive, obtain status on, or perform other functions associated with, faxing.

Traditional fax servers may be improved to interoperate with secure fax servers, enabling high-resolution, color fax receipt by the traditional fax server in addition to traditional low-resolution, black-and-white fax receipt. A process for authenticating and registering allows the traditional fax server to receive digital faxes sent through the secure fax server. Further, an automated registration process allows sending to any existing fax number through the secure fax server. If no verified destination is known, a traditional fax is sent. This enables seamless fax quality upgrades within existing fax servers.

Embodiments of systems and methods for the sending, delivery and receiving of faxes according to particular protocols are disclosed. Certain embodiments may receive a fax from a sender and determine if the ability exists to send the fax over a computer based network according to a particular protocol. If there is no destination associated with the fax number for the protocol the fax may be sent according to the fax number. If, however, there is a destination for the protocol associated with the fax number an attempt is made to send the fax to the destination according to the protocol.

An information processing apparatus includes a receiving unit that receives an operation for specifying an image to be subjected to processing and an operation for determining a parameter to be used in the processing, an execution unit that performs processing based on the determined parameter on the specified image, and an output unit that outputs, when the receiving unit receives an operation for specifying a new image, a parameter that has a particular relationship with a feature of the new image on a basis of a learning result obtained by a learning unit that learns a relationship between a parameter used in the processing that has been performed before by the execution unit and a feature of an image that has undergone the processing.
