Suture based closure device

A suture device may include a suture translation assembly configured to be axially translatable within a lumen of a delivery system and a distal assembly configured to be securable to the distal end of the delivery system. The suture translation assembly and the distal assembly may cooperate to enable a user to pass a needle back and forth between the two in order to endoscopically suture a defect.

COMPOSITE SUTURE NEEDLES HAVING ROTATABLE SECTIONS

A reconfigurable suture needle includes an elongated body having a curved proximal section and a curved distal section. A joint interconnects a distal end of the curved proximal section and a proximal end of the curved distal section. The joint enables the curved proximal section and the curved distal section to rotate relative to one another between a first configuration having a higher profile and a second configuration having a lower profile. Each of the curved proximal and distal sections of the elongated body defines about one-quarter of a circle. The elongated body has a semi-circular shape when in the first configuration and a wave shape when in the second configuration. The elongated body is rotated into the smaller profile for passing through a cannula and, after passing through the cannula, rotated back into the higher profile for use as a suturing needle.

DEVICES AND METHODS FOR CLOSURE OF OPENINGS IN TISSUE

The present disclosure relates to the field of tissue closures including medical devices that close openings in tissue during a surgical procedure. In particular, the present disclosure relates to devices that transition from a constrained to an unconstrained configuration to engage tissue on opposing sides of a tissue opening, and hold opposing tissue portions together to maintain the opening in a closed configuration.

DEVICES AND METHODS FOR SUTURING TISSUE

The present disclosure relates generally to devices and methods for treating a tissue defect, for example, by suturing. In some embodiments, a suturing device may include an elongate member having a working channel, a suture channel, and a suture arm extending from the elongate member. The suturing device may further include a needle passer located within the working channel, the needle passer operable to deliver a needle between the elongate member and a distal end of the suture arm for suturing a target tissue, and a suture extending through the suture channel, wherein the suture is coupled to the needle. The suturing device may further include a plurality of imaging devices, wherein a first imaging device is positioned along a distal face of the elongate member, and wherein a second imaging device is positioned along the suture arm.

Endoscopic stitching devices

The present disclosure relates to devices, systems and methods for endoscopic suturing or stitching through an access tube or the like. An endoscopic stitching device is provided and includes a handle assembly; an elongate shaft supported by and extending from the handle assembly; and an end effector supported on a distal end of the elongate shaft. The end effector includes a neck assembly configured and adapted for articulation in one direction between a substantially linear configuration and an off-axis configuration, and a pair of juxtaposed jaws pivotally associated with one another. Each jaw defines a suture needle receiving recess formed in a tissue contacting surface thereof.

A stitching device includes a handle assembly and an elongate shaft assembly. The handle assembly includes a main rod and a drive conversion assembly including a cam wheel, a pivot block, first and second links, and a pawl. The pawl is operatively coupled to the main rod, wherein the pawl is configured to engage the pivot block to cause rotation of the pivot block which, in turn, causes reciprocating displacement of the first and second links. The elongate shaft assembly includes first and second blade drive members coupled to the cam wheel. The tool assembly includes first and second jaws and first and second blades. The first and second blades are operatively coupled with the respective first and second blade drive members, wherein axial displacement of the main rod transitions the first and second jaws between open and closed positions and causes reciprocating axial displacement of the first and second blades.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR LOADING SUTURE

A device is disclosed that can load a suture and/or a shuttle into a suture device. The device can have a suture and/or a shuttle that can be moved (e.g., via a loader control) from a non-loaded configuration to a loaded configuration without damaging the suture or the shuttle.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PASSING SUTURE

A device is disclosed that can pierce and hold tissue and then pass suture through tissue. The device can have a shuttle that can removably attach to a suture and jaws that can be rotatably opened and closed with respect to each other. A method for using the device to repeatedly pass the suture through the tissue without removing the suture or device from the target site is also disclosed.

Implant adapted to treat urinary incontinence

An implant adapted to treat urinary incontinence includes a support material, a suture, and an anchor. The support material is provided to support the urethra when implanted in a patient. The suture is inserted through the support material and includes a first trailing end portion and a second trailing end portion. The anchor has a body, a fin extending from the body with an eyelet formed in the fin and the suture passed through the eyelet of the fin, and a gripping tab removably attached to the fin. The gripping tab is removable from the fin prior to insertion of the anchor into tissue.

An endoscopic stitching device includes an elongate shaft assembly, a tool assembly coupled with the elongate shaft assembly, and a sealing pack disposed in the elongate shaft assembly. The sealing pack defines a central lumen configured to receive an axial rod therethrough, and first and second lumens dimensioned to receive respective first and second needle receiving blades therethrough. The sealing pack includes a body portion, a plurality of outer lips extending outwardly from the body portion, and a plurality of inner lips extending inwardly from the central lumen. Each outer lip of the plurality of outer lips is configured to engage the elongate shaft assembly in a sealing relation. Each inner lip of the plurality of inner lips is configured to engage the axial rod in a sealing relation.
