A system and method for efficiently importing scanned construction project documents (e.g., digital images of physical documents) is disclosed. The method includes receiving a digital image of a document and performing a first text recognition operation on a first portion of the digital image. The method includes in response to determining, based on the first text recognition operation, that the first portion does not include machine-readable text, generating a modified image of the document by performing an image modification operation. The image modification operation may include an orientation operation. The method further includes storing the modified image of the document in a database. The image modification operation may also include a de-skewing operation and an alignment operation.

The disclosed embodiments illustrate method and system for providing assistance for document preparation. The method includes processing one or more portions for one or more field names in an electronic document by a multifunction device. The electronic document corresponds to a hand-filled document, which comprises a character string in a first format for a field name. Further, one or more portions are processed to determine a second format and a location of each character string. A set of information is received in a pre-specified format for the one or more field names from a user-computing device. A field value for each of the processed one or more portions is determined based on a match between the character string and key strings associated with field names. The electronic document is updated based on replacement of the processed one or more portions with corresponding determined field value at the location.
CONVERSION OF MECHANICAL MARKINGS ON A HARDCOPY DOCUMENT INTO MACHINE-ENCODED ANNOTATIONS
Techniques for converting mechanical markings on hardcopy textual content into digital annotations in a digital document file. In accordance with some embodiments, the techniques include identifying at least one block of text in a digital (scanned) image of a hardcopy document, and identifying at least one mechanical marking in the digital image of the hardcopy document. The mechanical marking, such as an underline, strike-through, highlight or circle, covers or lies adjacent to the corresponding block of text. An annotated digital document file is generated from the digital image of the hardcopy document. The annotated digital document file includes computer-executable instructions representing the original text of the hardcopy document and at least one annotation corresponding to the mechanical marking in the hardcopy document.

The disclosed embodiments illustrate method and system for providing assistance for document preparation. In accordance with an embodiment, an image processing apparatus comprises a scanner; a designation section configured to designate a color presented in an original document as the object to be removed; extraction section configured to extract color information of the color to be removed based on image data which is obtained by reading, using the scanner, a color information extraction sheet on which an image is formed with a material of the color to be removed; and a conversion section configured to form, based on the designation of the designation section and the color information extracted by the extraction section, an image by removing the image data in the color designated to be removed from the image data of the original document.
