In one embodiment, a command is received from a video provider at a media rendering device, the command being a command to embed a subscriber ID in at least one video frame in a video stream. A random key, k is also received from the video provider at the media rendering device. An injective transformation is invoked for k and the subscriber ID, the injective transformation generating a sequence of pairs of: near-transparent patterns and corresponding time periods. Logical blocks of the at least one video frame in the video stream are overlaid with one of the near-transparent patterns for its one of the corresponding time periods. A digital information recording apparatus includes a recording circuit for recording information of a retention period included in the digital information and indicating a period for permitting the digital information to be held in the recording medium, starting with a time at which the digital information is recorded on the recording medium; and information of a playback permission period included in the digital information and indicating a period for permitting the digital information to be played back starting with a time at which the information is reproduced initially following recording of the digital information on the recording medium, permitting temporary recording or copying for the information permitted for copy never or copy one generation.

Systems and methods for providing privacy control for digital capture of a recording include identifying a person within a digital capture that is a recording of a person within an environment based on received information regarding the person. A disposition tag is associated with an identified person in the recording. The disposition tag references a privacy control action to take according to privacy constraints for the person. Coordinates in the recording where the privacy control action is to be applied are determined.

In general, embodiments of the invention include methods and apparatuses for securing otherwise unsecured computer audio and video subsystems. Embodiments of the invention perform watermarking of video and/or audio data streams output by a computer system. Additional security features that are included in embodiments of the invention include fingerprinting, snooping, capturing streams for local or remote analytics or archiving, and mixing of secure system content with local audio and video content.

A wireless communication device comprises position determining system, a digital imaging system and a photograph customization system coupled to the position locating system and the digital imaging system. The position determining system is configured to provide information indicating a current position of the wireless communication device. The digital imaging system is configured to create digitally rendered images of visual content acquired thereby. The visual content is displayed on an image viewing structure of the digital imaging device while being acquired. The photograph customization system is configured to use the current location of the digital imaging device for providing one or more embeddable content ages and to display information from at least one of the one or more embeddable content images on an image viewing structure of the digital imaging device while the visual content being acquired by the digital imaging system is being displayed on the image viewing structure.

A system and method is disclosed for allowing content providers to protect against widespread copying of their content, while enabling them to give their customers more freedom in the way they use the content. In accordance with one embodiment, content providers identify their content as protected by watermarking the content. Consumers use compliant devices to access protected content. All of a user's compliant devices, or all of a family's devices, can be organized into an authorized domain. This authorized domain is used by content providers to create a logical boundary in which they can allow users increased freedom to use their content.

A method and apparatus for secure transfer of previously broadcasted content enables the secure transfer of previously broadcasted content between DVRs on a computer network.

Methods, devices, and computer-program products are provided for adding data to a digital video signal in a visually imperceptible manner. For example, a region of pixels can be identified in a video frame, and one or more pixel characteristics of the region of pixels can be determined. Based on the one or more pixel characteristics of the region of pixels, at least one pixel characteristic of a subset of pixels from the region of pixels can be modified in order to encode a set of data into the region of pixels. An output frame can be provided that includes the modified at least one pixel characteristics for the subset of pixels.

A signal adjustment apparatus includes a memory configured to store a first video obtained by imaging an object reflecting light that changes in time series in accordance with information embedded in the light, a processor coupled to the memory and configured to analyze the first video to specify an area in which the information is embedded in an image included in the first video, adjust a signal in the area, and output a second video including the adjusted signal.
