There is provided an information processing apparatus, an information processing method, a recording medium, a playback apparatus, a playback method, and a program that are designed to prevent an unnatural change in luminance during random access. The information processing apparatus according to one aspect of the present technology generates dynamic metadata including information regarding luminance of a picture, and encodes HDR video data such that the dynamic metadata is added to each picture serving as a random access point. For example, the dynamic metadata can be allowed to be added to the first picture of a GOP, the first picture serving as the random access point during fast-forward playback/rewind playback or cueing playback. The present technology can be applied to a Blu-ray (registered trademark) Disc player.

A mobile computing device can be configured, with an improved user interface, to synchronously play audio (or video) and text associated thereto, such as text stored in a synchronization index. Using the synchronization index, the device can periodically compare the current track time with that time associated to a word or range of words, such as a line (or segment) in a plurality of lines of text (or segments of text). Improved navigability of content using an improved mobile computing device and user interface is provided, because a user of the device can scroll through the lines of text associated with the audio or video to find a target word or range of words. If the user selects a particular word or range of words, by making a gesture on the mobile computing device, the device can identify a start time for the selected text. The device can then play the audio or video at the identified start time of the selected text. The improved user interface is a practical application for navigating audio (or video) and text associated thereto on a mobile computing device, providing bimodal reading on mobile computing devices and ease of navigability.

Recording medium, playback method, and playback device

A recording medium includes a video stream of a standard-luminance range and a video stream of high-luminance range, which are used selectively in accordance with a playback environment. The recording medium also includes a subtitle stream of the standard-luminance range and a subtitle stream of the high-luminance range, which are used selectively in accordance with the playback environment. A playlist file includes a management region where playback control information relating to a main stream is stored, and includes an extended region. The management region stores first playback control information specifying playing of the video stream of the high-luminance range and the subtitle stream of the high-luminance range in combination. The extended region stores second playback control information specifying playing of the video stream of the standard-luminance range and the subtitle stream of the standard-luminance range in combination.

A configuration is implemented that converts MMT format data to MPEG-2 TSV format data for recording onto medium, thereby permitting copy control in compliance with the initial copy control information. MMT format data with copy control information set therein is input and converted to MPEG-2 TS format data for re-cording onto information recording medium. The copy control information recorded in the service description table (MH-SDT) stipulated by the MMT format is acquired and, in accordance with predetermined conversion rules, used to generate the copy control information for recording to the program map table (PMT) stipulated by the MPEG-2 TS. For example, the EPN and CCI values to be recorded to the PMT are determined in accordance with the conversion rules.

Recording medium, playback method, and playback device

Recorded in a recording medium are a video stream of standard-luminance range, and a video stream of high-luminance range that is a broader luminance range than the standard-luminance range, which are used selectively in accordance with a playback environment, a subtitle stream of the standard-luminance range, and a subtitle stream of the high-luminance range, which are used selectively in accordance with the playback environment, and a playlist file storing playback control information of content, playlist file including a management region where the playback control information relating to a main stream is stored, and an extended region. The management region stores first playback control information specifying playing of a video stream of the high-luminance range and a subtitle stream of the high-luminance range in combination. The extended region stores second playback control information specifying playing of a video stream of the standard-luminance range and a subtitle stream of the standard-luminance range in combination.

PLAYBACK DEVICE, PLAYBACK METHOD, AND RECORDING MEDIUM

A decoding system decodes a video stream, which is encoded video information. The decoding system includes an attribute information acquirer that acquires first attribute information, indicating whether a dynamic range of luminance of the video stream is a first dynamic range or a second dynamic range that is wider than the first dynamic range, and a decoder that acquires the video steam and generates decoded video information. The decoding system also includes an outputter that, in a case where the first attribute information indicates the second dynamic range, outputs the decoded video information and maximum luminance information indicating a maximum luminance of the video stream in accordance with the second dynamic range. Further, in other cases, the outputter outputs the decoded video information and maximum luminance information indicating the maximum luminance of all pictures in the video stream.

The decoding system also includes an outputter that outputs the decoded video information and the maximum luminance information. Where the dynamic range of luminance of the video stream is expressed by the maximum luminance of all pictures in the video stream as the maximum luminance information, the outputter outputs the decoded video information, along with the maximum luminance information indicating the maximum luminance of all pictures in the video stream.
