Hash-based motion searching
Methods, systems and device for hash-based motion estimation in video coding are described. An exemplary method of video processing includes determining, for a conversion between a current block of a video and a bitstream representation of the video, motion information associated with the current block using a hash-based motion search, a size of the current block being M×N, M and N being positive integers and M being not equal to N, applying, based on the motion information and a video picture comprising the current block, a prediction for the current block, and performing, based on the prediction, the conversion.

Method and Apparatus Using Boundary Matching for Mode Selection in Video Coding System
A method and apparatus for video coding. According to the method, a set of candidates associated with coding modes or mode parameters are determined. Boundary matching costs associated with the set of candidates are determined, where each of the boundary matching costs is determined for one target candidate of the set of candidates. The costs are calculated by using reconstructed or predicted samples of the current block and one or more neighboring blocks of the current block. Each of the boundary matching costs is calculated using one target configuration selected from a plurality of configurations. A final candidate is selected from the set of candidates based on the boundary matching costs. The current block is encoded or decoded using the final candidate.

Unified search window to support multiple video encoding standards
A system comprises a memory storage configured to store at least a portion of a frame of a video and a hardware motion estimation search processing unit configured to perform at least a portion of a motion estimation search for the video for a plurality of different block sizes. The hardware motion estimation search processing unit is configured to perform the motion estimation search using a plurality of source sub-blocks of a first block size to determine a first type of comparison evaluation values for the first block size. A combination of values included in the first type of comparison evaluation values is utilized to determine at least one second type of comparison evaluation values for a second block size, wherein the second block size is larger than the first block size.
