A password less login using a smart device is caused to retrieve from a cloud-server a one-time use code. The smart device is associated with a virtual user account to control a plurality of controllable devices with a device app installed on a smart device. The one-time use code is provided to a controllable device and the controllable device is caused to provide the one-time use code back to the smart device. The app causes the one-time use code provided back to the smart device by the controllable device to be authenticated. In response to the one-time use code being authenticated, the controllable device is bound to the app whereupon the controllable device is controllable through use of the app.
System and method for simplified setup of a universal remote control
A system and method for enabling set up of a controlling device capable of controlling a plurality of appliances, via an interactive instruction set and associated programming. The programming is accessible by a STB or other controllable appliance and is configured to appropriately display interactive instructions and prompts to a user during a user initiated set up procedure for configuration of another controllable device (e.g., DVD, VCR, DVR, etc) available to the user.

A set top/back box and system and method for providing a remote control device are disclosed. In one embodiment, one or more wireless transceivers are located within a housing, which also interconnectively includes television input/output, a processor, and memory. The set top/back box may establish a pairing with a programmable device, such as a proximate wireless-enabled interactive handheld device having a touch screen display, whereby formatted parallel audiovisual experience instructions, including virtual buttons, may be transmitted to the programmable device for display on the touch screen display to create an experience parallel to the experience on the television. The set top/back box receives and processes virtual remote control functionality input instructions from the programmable device to control amenities associated with the set top/back box.

A multimedia device and controlling method thereof are disclosed, by which heterogeneous devices are controlled under at least two different communication protocols. The present invention includes displaying a guide message for controlling at least one function of the electronic device, receiving a remote control signal corresponding to a 1.sup.st function among the at least one function from a 1.sup.st remote controller of the electronic device, saving data for identifying the 1.sup.st function and the received remote control signal in a memory by mapping the data and the received remote control signal to each other, displaying a graphic image including the data for identifying the 1.sup.st function, if the data for identifying the 1.sup.st function is selected by a 2.sup.nd remote controller of the multimedia device, extracting the remote control signal mapped to the 1.sup.st function, and transmitting the extracted remote control signal to an external device.

SYSTEM TO CONTROL MULTIPLE DEVICES WITH A REMOTE CONTROL DEVICE
A system and method are provided for a device for use with a primary device and a remote control device, the primary device being configured to perform a function, the remote control device including an infrared (IR) transmitter and a wireless transceiver. The IR transmitter is configured to transmit an IR signal based on the primary device control code, and the transceiver is configured to receive a wireless instruction signal. The device comprises a memory and a processor. The processor is configured to execute instructions stored on the memory to cause the device to: obtain primary device data associated with the primary device; generate the wireless instruction signal based on the primary device data; and transmit the wireless instruction signal to cause the remote control device to transmit the IR signal to instruct the primary device to perform the function.
