11553230 · 2023-01-10 · ·

Techniques are described for expanding and/or improving the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) 3.0 television protocol in robustly delivering the next generation broadcast television services. A USB driver communicates I.sup.2C through a JAVA® application with a USB dongle implementing for example an ATSC 3.0 tuner, with the JAVA application simply passing I.sup.2C communication between the dongle and driver such that the driver is platform independent.

Broadcast receiving apparatus, broadcast receiving method, and contents outputting method

A broadcast receiving apparatus includes: a digital broadcast receiver configured to receive digital broadcasting in which contents are transmitted; a network transceiver configured to execute network communication; a data string converter configured to perform a mixing process for creating a new coded data string based on a coded data string of the received contents and a coded data string acquired by the network transceiver; a digital interface configured to output the contents to external equipment; and a controller configured to determine a state of the network communication of the external equipment. The state of the network communication of the external equipment includes a first state in which the network communication is in a communicable state and a second state in which the network communication is in an uncommunicable state. In accordance with the determined state of the network communication, the digital interface performs three types of output operations.

A digital broadcast receiving device includes a multi-channel tuning device, a first de-multiplexing device, a second de-multiplexing device. The multi-channel tuning device includes a plurality of locking devices, wherein the locking devices are arranged to lock a broadcast signal at a plurality of frequency points, and respectively output a plurality of data streams that correspond to the frequency points. The first de-multiplexing device includes a plurality of first de-multiplexing units, wherein the first de-multiplexing units are respectively associated with one of the locking devices and arranged to respectively buffer data units in the data streams that correspond to specific types. The second de-multiplexing device is coupled to the first de-multiplexing device and includes a plurality of second de-multiplexing units, wherein the second de-multiplexing units are arranged to respectively buffer data units that are buffered by the first de-multiplexing units and correspond to specific channels.

Techniques for ATSC 3.0 broadcast boundary area management using plural tuners with different numbers of antennae

Techniques are described for expanding and/or improving the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) 3.0 television protocol in robustly delivering the next generation broadcast television services. In a boundary region between first and second broadcast stations in which a receiver can pick up signals from both stations, a primary tuner receiving signals from plural antennae presents a demanded service while a secondary tuner uses a single antenna to scan for duplicate transmissions of the service, and if one is found, the version with the better quality metrics may be presented.

Media content presentation systems and methods are operable to present media content received by a media device, wherein the media device comprises a plurality of tuner systems. An exemplary embodiment tunes the plurality of tuners to receive different broadcasting media content streams each comprising a streaming media content event; communicates the streaming media content events from the receiving tuner to a corresponding tuner buffer of the tuner system; and stores a portion of the streaming media content events into the corresponding tuner buffers. When a user selection is received for presentation of one of the streaming media content events, the selected one of the streaming media content events are presented to a user of the media device.

BROADCAST RECEIVING SYSTEM

A broadcast receiving apparatus includes: a first receiving unit receiving broadcast data for a first transmission method; a second receiving unit receiving broadcast data for a second transmission method; a first decoding unit decoding the broadcast data received by the first receiving unit; a second decoding unit decoding the broadcast data received by the second receiving unit; a video output unit outputting video, the video being generated based on data decoded by the first or second decoding unit; an operation input unit receiving control information from a remote controller; and a control unit controlling the units based on the control information received by the operation input unit. The remote controller includes a button to output control information for switching between a display state and a non-display state of service, the service being linked with a broadcasting program.

Methods, systems, and computer readable media may be operable to facilitate switching the video and audio output to a different service when a current service is not presentable. When outputting content from a first service, a multimedia device may identify and switch to an output of content from a second service when the content from the first service becomes unpresentable. The multimedia device may continue to monitor the quality or presentability of the content from the first service, and the multimedia device may switch from an output of content form the second service to an output of content from the first service when the determination is made that the content from the first service is presentable.
