A circular stapler including a cartridge assembly and an anvil assembly is provided. The cartridge assembly includes a rotatable drive shaft and the anvil assembly includes first and second pull cables. When the anvil assembly engages the cartridge assembly, retraction of the first pull cable effects clamping of tissue between the anvil assembly and the cartridge assembly, and retraction of the second pull cable effects stapling and cutting of the clamped tissue.

The jaw members are each longitudinally curved with respect to the longitudinal axis. The dynamic clamping member is disposed in mechanical cooperation with a distal portion of the drive assembly and includes an upper beam, a lower beam, and a vertical beam having a cutting edge on a distal portion thereof. At least a portion of the dynamic clamping member is longitudinally curved with respect to the longitudinal axis. The tissue stop is disposed adjacent a distal portion of the first jaw member and configured to impede tissue from distally escaping the jaw members.

A method is used to manufacture a frame of a curved surgical stapler. The method includes manufacturing a first portion of the frame of the curved surgical stapler separate from the first portion. The first portion includes a first curvilinear portion of an end effector and a first alignment feature. The method also includes manufacturing a second portion of the frame of the curved surgical stapler. The second portion includes a second alignment feature. The method also includes manufacturing a third portion of the frame of the curved surgical stapler separate from either of the first or second portions. The third portion includes a C-shaped track. The method also includes aligning the first and second portions portion with the second portion by aligning the first and second alignment features. The method also includes coupling the first and second portions of the frame of the curved surgical stapler together.

An end effector for a medical device includes an anvil and a cartridge. The anvil has an anvil face and a first staple pocket and a second staple pocket, each defined by the anvil face. The first staple pocket includes a first surface having a first depth, and the second staple pocket includes a second surface having a second depth. The cartridge has a first staple having a first height in an open configuration, a first driver, a second staple having a second height in an open configuration, and a second driver. A first staple formation distance is defined by a first distance between the first driver and the first surface of the first staple pocket when the anvil and the cartridge are in a closed position. The first staple formation distance differs from a second staple formation distance.
