Embodiments of a fax system with adaptive protocol selection, and methods for such a system, are disclosed herein. Embodiments of a fax system may be adapted to selectively configure the protocol (both the type of protocol or aspects of a particular protocol) used in association with the transmission or reception of a specific fax. The configuration of the protocol utilized can be based on one or more attributes associated with a sender or a destination. The fax can then be transmitted or received according to those configuration parameters.

A method of decoding video, comprising: receiving an encoded bit stream representing frames of video, each of the frames comprising blocks of pixels; for a current block to be decoded, obtaining a vanishing point from the encoded bit stream and calculating pixel values of the current block to be decoded by performing intra-prediction based on a prediction line originating in the vanishing point; and providing decoded video based on the calculated pixel values. If it is determined that a fax destination is not HD-enabled, such as a conventional fax device, the high-resolution component of the outbound fax job request may be rendered as a low-resolution fax. The low resolution fax may be transmitted via a public switched telephone network (PSTN). On the other hand, if it is determined that a fax destination is HD-enabled, a determination may be made whether the HD-enabled fax destination is color enabled, and the high-resolution component may be rendered as either a high-resolution monochrome fax or a high-resolution color fax.

The image generation controlling part receives and parses image generation information for at least one of the hardware resources to execute an image generation based on the image handle information, from the external apparatus in response to an instruction of the image generation, so that at least one of the hardware resources executes the image generation.
