The surface mount transmission line capacitor can include a monolithic substrate having a surface, a first electrode formed over the surface, a second electrode arranged over the first electrode, a dielectric layer arranged between the first electrode and second electrode, a first terminal layer exposed along the surface of the substrate and electrically connected with the first electrode, and a second terminal layer exposed along the surface of the substrate and electrically connected with the second electrode. The first terminal layer and the second terminal layer can be contained within a perimeter of the surface of the monolithic substrate.

The one or more middle metal layers form a middle winding portion of the first inductor. The device also includes a bottom substrate electrically coupled to the middle substrate opposite the top substrate, where a first bottom metal layer of the bottom substrate forms a bottom winding portion of the first inductor.

The present invention is directed to a multilayer capacitor and a circuit board containing the multilayer capacitor. The capacitor includes a main body containing a first set of alternating dielectric layers and internal electrode layers and a second set of alternating dielectric layers and internal electrode layers. Each set contains a first internal electrode layer and a second internal electrode layer wherein each layer includes a top edge, a bottom edge opposite the top edge, and two side edges that define a main body of the layer. Each layer contains at least one lead tab extending from the top edge of the main body of the layer and at least one lead tab extending from the bottom edge of the main body of the layer wherein the lead tabs are offset from the side edges of the main body of the layer. In addition, external terminals are electrically connected to the internal electrode layers wherein the external terminals are formed on a top surface of the capacitor and a bottom surface of the capacitor opposing the top surface of the capacitor.

Various examples related to microwave dielectric analyzers and their use are provided. In one example, a microwave dielectric analyzer includes a measurement apparatus having a conductive electrode that can couple to a microwave analyzer and processing circuitry that can determine a dielectric characteristic of the dielectric specimen using a reflection coefficient measured by the microwave analyzer. The dielectric characteristic can be determined using a computational electromagnetic model of the measurement apparatus. The reflection coefficient can be measured by the microwave analyzer with the dielectric specimen in contact with the conductive electrode and/or sandwiched between conductive electrodes. The conductive electrodes can be axially aligned, and the second electrode may not be coupled to the microwave analyzer.
