MICROCATHEERS FOR INJECTING EMBOLIC LIQUID AGENTS INTO VESSELS
20210038231 · 2021-02-11 ·

A device and method for injecting liquid embolic agents utilizing a plug and push technique, The device/catheter has at least one side hole or an externally swellable region which creates a plug upstream of the distalmost portion of the catheter and thereby ameliorates the suboptimal outcomes associated with creating a plug upstream of a distal end hole via injecting embolic agents only at the distalmost portion of the catheter. The catheter can include a flow restricting structure to initially block flow of the liquid embolic agent out the distal end hole and direct flow of the liquid embolic agent through the one or more side holes.

A plug for insertion into the nose or ear of a subject, comprising: a body adapted to fit into a nostril or ear canal of the subject and a hollow tubular member with a collar disposed inside the body. The plug is adapted to receive a tip of a syringe for injection of a fluid therapeutic agent through the hollow tubular member for nasal administration or administration to the ear. A kit comprising the plug and a syringe, as well as a method for administering a fluid therapeutic agent to a subject using the plug are also disclosed.

DEVICES, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS FOR TREATING THE LEFT ATRIAL APPENDAGE
20210204960 · 2021-07-08 ·

Disclosed are embodiments of a method for occluding a left atrial appendage (LAA) and other cavities or openings within a body. Some embodiments of the method can include an implant configured to be deployed within the LAA or other cavity, configured to be expanded or moved against a wall portion of the LAA or other cavity, and configured to twist at least a portion of the LAA or other cavity when the implant is rotated. Thereafter, one or more securing elements, staples, sutures, or other fasteners can be implanted in the gathered tissue to hold the tissue in the gathered state, thereby occluding the opening of the LAA or other cavity. In some embodiments, the opening of the LAA or other cavity can be occluded by elongating or otherwise reshaping the opening using an implant device, and securing the opening in the occluded state.

Temporary dressing for an internal wound
11052170 · 2021-07-06 · ·

The invention relates to a device for treating blood flow in an internal wound, including a handling member connected to a series of successively narrower tubes, each tube including a liquid-expandable article. The tubes can be pivotably connected to each other, allowing the tubes to conform to the contours of the wound, or fixed together. The tubes can be encased in a liquid-soluble layer that keeps the liquid-expandable article sequestered from liquids. The stepwise-tapering profile of the device allows for its insertion into the internal wound with little or no resistance until fully seated. Upon encountering liquids within the wound, the liquid-soluble layer can dissolve to expose the liquid-expandable article. When exposed to the wound liquids, the liquid-expandable element can expand in volume, providing compressive pressure against internal wound surfaces and minimizing blood loss. The tubes and the liquid-expandable element can include therapeutic agents for treating the wound.

NASAL PLUG
20210015683 · 2021-01-21 ·

Nasal plug for treatment of nosebleed in a subject, comprising: a body adapted to fit into a nostril of the subject, the body comprising a first end arranged to face inward and a second end arranged to face outward during use; a hollow tubular member disposed inside the body and comprising a first opening facing inwardly and a second opening facing outwardly during use; wherein the tubular member further comprises a collar, adapted to prevent blood of a subject from escaping the body of the nasal plug, and wherein the collar is disposed completely inside the body.

Filter apparatus for ostium of left atrial appendage

Apparatus for permanent placement across an ostium of a left atrial appendage in a patient, which includes a filtering membrane configured to extend across the ostium of the left atrial appendage. The filtering membrane has a permeable structure which allows blood to flow through but substantially inhibits thrombus from passing therethrough. The apparatus also includes a support structure attached to the filtering membrane which retains the filtering membrane in position across the ostium of the left atrial appendage by permanently engaging a portion of the interior wall of the left atrial appendage. The support structure may be radially expandable from a first configuration to a second configuration which engages the ostium or the interior wall of the left atrial appendage. The filtering membrane may define an opening therethrough that is configured to expand from a first size which inhibits the passage of thrombus therethrough to a second size which allows an interventional device, e.g., an expansion balloon, to pass therethrough, and wherein the opening is resiliently biased towards the first size.

Detachable polymer bond

This disclosure concerns polymer catheter designs incorporating joints that break under tension. The joints are generally formed from two tubular elements comprising two different polymers with dissimilar thermal and/or mechanical characteristics, which are overlapped and exposed to heat and pressure. The disclosure also concerns methods of making and using such catheters, for instance to deliver medical implants.

MEDICAL DEVICE AND SYSTEM FOR OCCLUDING A TISSUE OPENING AND METHOD THEREOF
20200390428 · 2020-12-17 ·

Devices, methods and systems are provided for occluding a left atrial appendage. In one embodiment, a medical device includes a cover portion and a foam anchor portion with a flexible member coupled therebetween. The cover portion is configured to be positioned over an ostium of the left atrial appendage. The foam anchor portion extends between a proximal end and a distal end to define a length and an axis defined along the length of the foam anchor portion. The foam anchor portion defines a curved external surface radially extending relative to the axis such that the curved external surface extends between the proximal and distal ends of the foam anchor portion. The foam anchor portion is configured to self-expand to provide an outward biasing force from the curved external surface such that a circumferential surface area of the curved external surface biases against tissue of the left atrial appendage.
