Patient-specific instrumentation for patellar resurfacing surgery and method
A system for creating a patient-specific jig model for patellar resurfacing surgery comprises a patellar implant positioning module for obtaining a planned position of a patellar implant on a model of the patella, the model being anatomically patient-specific. A patella resurfacing calculator module calculates a position and/or orientation of a resurfacing plane and attachment bore in the patella as a function of the planned position of the patellar implant. A jig model generator module for generates and outputs a virtual jig model using the resurfacing plane and attachment bore of the patella and the model of the patella, the jig model comprising at least one patient-specific contact surface corresponding to a surface of the patella for complementary contact, at least one drill guide positioned relative to the at least one patient-specific contact surface to be configured to guide a tool defining the attachment bore for the patellar implant, and at least one cut guide positioned relative to the at least one patient-specific contact surface to be configured to guide a tool in resurfacing the patella to form the planned resurfacing plane.
Patient Selectable Joint Arthroplasty Devices and Surgical Tools
Disclosed herein are tools for repairing articular surfaces repair materials and for repairing an articular surface. The surgical tools are designed to be customizable or highly selectable by patient to increase the speed, accuracy and simplicity of performing total or partial arthroplasty.
A TRIAL PATELLA COMPONENT KIT
A kit for use in knee replacement surgery includes a trial patella component and a patella implant component. The trial patella component includes a backing plate having a backing surface for positioning against a patient's patella, and at least one sensor which can generate a signal corresponding to the compressive load applied to the trial patella component, and a first bearing plate which can be fitted to the backing plate and which, when fitted to the backing plate, provides a bearing surface for articulation against a bearing surface on the patient's femur. The patella implant component has a backing surface for fixation to a patient's patella instead of the backing surface of the trial patella component, and a bearing surface for articulation against a femoral bearing surface. The thickness of the patella implant component is greater than the thickness of the trial patella component when the first bearing plate is fitted to the backing plate, the difference between the said thicknesses being at least about 1 mm.
PATELLA FORMING DEVICE AND USING METHOD THEREOF
The present invention discloses a patella forming device and a using method thereof, the patella forming device comprising a connecting member, a base, a milling member and a central shaft pin, wherein the connecting member is disposed on the top of the base, and one end of the central shaft pin is disposed on the connecting member, The other end extends vertically downwardly and extends into the hollow structure of the base, the milling member is disposed on the surface of the base, and the base is rotatable around the central shaft to remove unwanted bone tissue through the milling member; The invention rapidly rotate on the surface of the patella which needs to be formed, and removes the skeletal hypertrophy bone and the bone tissue which is not matched with the femoral side prosthesis by cutting, honing, etc., forming a smooth and regular in a short time.
Patella Tracking
Disclosed herein are a surgical system for patella tracking and a method for selecting a properly-sized patellar implant utilizing the same. The surgical system may include first and second trackers and a patellar tracking system. The first tracker may be configured to contact an unresected or a resected patella, and the second tracker may be configured to contact a bone. The patellar tracking system may be configured to track the first and second trackers during patellar flexion and extension to generate patellar range of motion and patellar trial range of motion. A method for selecting a patellar implant may utilize the first and second trackers and the patellar tracking system.
POSITIONING GUIDE SYSTEM WITH SENSOR
A positioning guide system for guiding a surgical tool comprising a positioning guide and a user interface. The positioning guide comprising: an interface to correspond to a plurality of anatomic landmarks of a patient; a plurality of sensors to provide an output indicative of the proximity of the interface and one or more of the plurality of anatomic landmarks; and a tool guide, for a surgical tool, positioned relative to the interface. The user interface provides a user output indicative of correct positioning of the positioning guide and the anatomic landmarks of the patient based on the output of the plurality of sensors.
Systems and methods for ligament balancing in robotic surgery
Systems and methods for ligament balancing during robotic surgery. One or more transducers are positioned within a knee joint to detect forces indicative of tension in ligaments and to provide output based on the detected forces. A distraction device is used to provide a distraction force to cause movement of a distal end portion of a femur relative to a proximal end portion of a tibia to increase tension in the ligaments. Information associated with output from the transducers is displayed for viewing.
System for determining the position of a knee prosthesis
The present application provides an apparatus and method for determining a position of a joint prosthesis using a computer assisted orthopedic surgery system in support of an arthroplasty surgery. The apparatus and method includes attaching a first locatable element to a first bone on one side of a joint, providing a sensor having a second locatable element and moving the sensor in proximity of the joint to locate a plurality of positions of the sensor relative to the first locatable element using a tracking devise. The apparatus and method further includes selecting a generic model of a joint, determining the generic model in response to the plurality of positions located using the tracking device to generate a deformed model, determining a position for a joint prosthesis on the deformed model, and outputting on a display the determined position upon the deformed model.
Navigated Patella Clamp
Disclosed herein are systems and methods of patella arthroplasty. A navigated patella clamp used in an arthroplasty procedure includes first and second movable jaw members and an actuation member coupled to the first and second jaw members for moving the first and second jaw members along a plane toward and away from one another. The patella clamp further includes a tracker and adjustable stylus for positioning the clamp on a patient's patella below a desired resection plane. The adjustable stylus coupled to the clamp is used to check the position and orientation of the clamp with respect to the patella to ensure the correct amount of bone will be resected from the patella corresponding to the thickness of a patella component that will be implanted on the resected patella.
Methods for robotic surgery using a cannula
Methods for preparing a bone in surgery using an imaging system, a navigation system having a locating device, and a robotic system having a cutting tool. A cannula is guided into an incision to expand the incision and provide access to the bone so that the cutting tool is insertable through the cannula to remove material from the bone. An implant is insertable through the cannula to be placed in the bone.
