METHODS FOR ROBOTIC SURGERY USING A CANNULA
Methods for preparing a bone in surgery using an imaging system, a navigation system having a locating device, and a robotic system having a cutting tool. A cannula is guided into an incision to expand the incision and provide access to the bone so that the cutting tool is insertable through the cannula to remove material from the bone. An implant is insertable through the cannula to be placed in the bone.
PATELLA CLAMP AND PATELLA TRACKING SYSTEM
Disclosed herein is a patella clamp configured to grip a patient's patella. The patella clamp includes a clamping assembly, a ratchet arm assembly, and a handle assembly. The clamping assembly includes first and second patella grip portions mounted in opposing relationship. In use, actuation of the handle assembly moves the second patella grip portion towards the first patella grip portion to clamp the patient's patella. The handle assembly is configured to be moveably adjustable (e.g., rotatable) relative to the clamping assembly. In addition, and/or alternatively, the patella clamp may be configured as a tracking patella clamp arranged and configured to be used in an orthopedic computer-assisted and/or robotic surgical surgery to enable a surgeon to view a virtual patella model to visualize patella preparation steps in a computer-based environment prior to making the preparations on the patient.

A patella clamping device has a handle having a first arm and a second arm, the arms each having a first gripping end and a second clamping end. The clamping ends are movable towards the opposite arm by action on the gripping end of each arm. The clamping ends of the first and second arms comprise opposed clamping surfaces. The clamping end of each arm has a body portion having spaced first and second surface defining the opposed surface of each arm. A plurality of pins extend from the first to the second surface. A rotatable toothed jaw member is pivotally mounted on each of the pins. The jaw member has at least one tooth extending outwardly of the opposed surface of each arm for engaging the patella. Each body has a third surface spaced from the second surface to create a slot for receiving a saw blade.

Patient specific implants and instrumentation for replacing a portion of a patella. Methods for producing patient specific implants and instrumentation include conducting imaging studies of the patient's native patella, deriving measurements of the patella and surrounding soft tissues from the imaging studies, manufacturing customized implants and instrumentation specific to the derived measurements, and implanting a customized implant using the customized instrumentation. Patient specific instrumentation includes: a patellar clamp ring, an anterior clamp, a restraining arm, a posterior clamping surface, a dual bore reaming collet, a reamer, a reaming depth gauge, and a resection cutting guide. Patient specific portions of a patellar implant include: topography of the posterior articular surface, facet angle, shape and dimensions of the anterior attachment surface, implant length, implant width, implant thickness and the outer perimeter shape of the implant.
DEVICES AND METHODS FOR KNEE REPLACEMENT
A device for use in joint replacement surgery is disclosed, the device may comprise a patient-specific jig having a body formed using three dimensional data corresponding to a first resection surface of a bone of a patient according to a preoperative plan. The body may also include a first bone facing surface configured to match the first resection surface of the bone of the patient according to the three dimensional data and an alignment perimeter sized and shaped to match a perimeter of the resection surface of the bone of the patient according to the three dimensional data.
PATIENT-SPECIFIC INSTRUMENTATION FOR PATELLAR RESURFACING SURGERY AND METHOD
A system for creating a patient-specific jig model for patellar resurfacing surgery comprises a patellar implant positioning module for obtaining a planned position of a patellar implant on a model of the patella, the model being anatomically patient-specific. A patella resurfacing calculator module calculates a position and/or orientation of a resurfacing plane and attachment bore in the patella as a function of the planned position of the patellar implant. A jig model generator module for generates and outputs a virtual jig model using the resurfacing plane and attachment bore of the patella and the model of the patella, the jig model comprising at least one patient-specific contact surface corresponding to a surface of the patella for complementary contact, at least one drill guide positioned relative to the at least one patient-specific contact surface to be configured to guide a tool defining the attachment bore for the patellar implant, and at least one cut guide positioned relative to the at least one patient-specific contact surface to be configured to guide a tool in resurfacing the patella to form the planned resurfacing plane.
Positioning guide system with sensor
A positioning guide system for guiding a surgical tool comprising a positioning guide and a user interface. The positioning guide comprising: an interface to correspond to a plurality of anatomic landmarks of a patient; a plurality of sensors to provide an output indicative of the proximity of the interface and one or more of the plurality of anatomic landmarks; and a tool guide, for a surgical tool, positioned relative to the interface. The user interface provides a user output indicative of correct positioning of the positioning guide and the anatomic landmarks of the patient based on the output of the plurality of sensors.
