UNDERCUTTING TOOL

An undercutting tool for machining an undercut anchoring cut-out into a material, in particular a bone material, has a drive element, which is driveable in rotation about a main axis for application of a driving torque, and a rotatably mounted tool carrier, which has a working end with a working tool and is connectable to the drive element by means of a drive connection. The tool carrier is pivotable from an initial position, in which it extends along the main axis, into an undercutting position, in which it has an angle of inclination relative to the main axis and can be driven with a wobbling movement.

SURGICAL DRILL WITH AUTOMATIC RETRACTION AND ASSOCIATED METHODS AND SYSTEMS

The present technology relates to surgical drilling devices, and associated systems and methods. In some embodiments, a surgical drilling device includes a drill bit and a retraction mechanism. The retraction mechanism can include a housing, a slide assembly within the housing and operably coupled to the drill bit, a spring element engaging the slide assembly, and a locking element coupled to the slide assembly. The locking element can be movable between a locked configuration and an unlocked configuration based on an amount of force applied by the drill bit to the slide assembly. When in the locked configuration, the locking element can secure the slide assembly to the housing. When in the unlocked configuration, the locking element can allow the spring element to displace the slide assembly proximally within the housing to retract the drill bit.

EXPANDING TIBIAL STEM

An ankle prosthesis is provided that includes a tibial stem with a retractable member configured to be controllably movable between a retracted position and an extended position so that in the extended position the retractable member engages the surface of the bone that defines an intramedullary canal so as to enhance anchoring of the tibial stem within the tibia.

Surgical Navigation Systems And Methods

The present disclosure relates generally to a surgical system. The surgical system comprises one or more surgical instrument assemblies and a surgical navigation system. The surgical instrument assemblies comprises a tracking device capable of being tracked by the surgical navigation system. The surgical system is also configured to allow the user to define one or more alert zones relative to anatomical structures of the patient and/or a surgical pathway. The surgical system further comprises an alert device in communication with the surgical navigation system, such that the alert device is configured to provide a user-perceptible alert to the surgeon or medical professional based on the position of the surgical instrument, as determined by the surgical navigation system, relative to the defined alert zones and/or surgical pathway.

System and a drill bit for drilling a bore in a bone and measuring a depth of the bore during surgery

A system for drilling a bore in a bone (7) and measuring a depth of the bore during surgery, said system comprising: a drill (5) comprising a drill chuck (6) for holding a drill bit; a drill bit (3) mounted in the drill chuck; at least one sensor (11,12) arranged to produce signals for determining the depth of the bore, preferably comprising a strain gauge (11) arranged to produce a signal representing a force exerted on the system during drilling, and a distance sensor (12) arranged to produce a signal representing a distance between a reference point on the system and the bone surface during drilling; first communication means (19) arranged to communicate said signals to electronic processing means; electronic processing means (16) arranged to receive said signals from said first communication means and to determine a depth of a bore from said signals; second communication means (13a) arranged to communicate said determined depth to output means; output means (2) for outputting information about the determined depth of the bore received from said second communication means; wherein said drill bit is part of a rotatable drill bit unit (1), which may or may not comprise said drill chuck; and said at least one sensor and one of said first and second communication means are mounted in the drill bit unit.

GUIDE APPARATUS FOR SURGICAL CUTTING TOOL

A guide apparatus for a surgical cutting tool includes a plurality of plates arranged in parallel with a guide plane. The plates form opposing bearing surfaces spaced apart over a clearance distance that defines an opening. A sheath includes a cylindrical portion that extends along a longitudinal axis and forms an interior passage extending through cylindrical portion along the longitudinal axis. The cylindrical portion of the sheath slidably engages the opening through the clearance distance, and the interior passage of the sheath receives a rotary cutting head of the surgical cutting tool in an operating configuration.

Posterior to lateral interbody fusion approach with associated instrumentation and implants

Methods for accessing a disc space of a patient as a part of an interbody fusion, as well as the tools employed therewith. An exemplary method may include inserting a leading end of a tool into the patient's back at a location on the posterior surface that is laterally offset from a patient's spinous process and disc. The tool's initial entry into the patient may be from a posterior approach. As the tool is advanced along its designated path, it begins to deviate from the posterior approach towards a lateral approach. When the leading end reaches the disc, it may access the disc from a lateral or substantially lateral location. The tool may be used to access the disc location, to remove disc material, to deliver a cutting tool for removing the disc material, and other steps associated with the spinal interbody fusion procedure.
