A power fuse for protecting an electrical load subject to transient load current cycling events in a direct current electrical power system is provided. The power fuse includes at least one fuse element assembly that includes an elongated planar substrate, a plurality of fusible weak spots, and a conductor. The weak spots are formed on the substrate and are longitudinally spaced from one another on the substrate. The conductor is separately provided from the substrate and the weak spots. The conductor includes a solid elongated strip of metal having no stamped weak spot openings therein and therefore avoiding thermal-mechanical fatigue strain in the conductor when subjected to the transient load current cycling events. The solid elongated strip of metal includes coplanar connector sections that are mounted to respective ones of the weak spots and obliquely extending sections bent out of plane of the connector sections to extend above the substrate.

Terminal busbar

A terminal busbar includes a first busbar portion having a coupling plate, and a second busbar portion having a top plate portion, and a fusible member coupled to and between the coupling plate and the top plate portion. The fusible member has a first portion with a groove or an aperture disposed therein. The terminal busbar further includes an overmolded thermoplastic layer encapsulating the first portion of the fusible member and the groove or the aperture. A thickness of the overmolded thermoplastic layer both above and underneath the fusible member is greater than a thickness of the fusible member to prevent secondary arcing.

ELECTRICAL INTERRUPTER SWITCHING ELEMENT HAVING PASSIVE INTERRUPTION TRIPPING, IN PARTICULAR FOR INTERRUPTING HIGH CURRENTS AT HIGH VOLTAGES

An example interruption switch includes a casing surrounding a contact unit, defining a current path through the switch, which has two connection contacts, a separation region and a sabot. A current supplied to the contact unit may be interrupted via the one of the connection contacts and discharged via the other connection contact. At least one chamber in the switch, delimited by the separation region, is substantially filled with a vaporizable medium in contact with the separation region. The separation region is separable into at least two parts through the supplied current when a threshold amperage is exceeded. An electric arc forming between the two parts at least partially vaporizes the vaporizable medium, and a gas pressure to which the sabot is exposed forms. The sabot moves, in the casing, from a starting to an end position, achieving an insulation spacing between the connection contacts.

Fusible link in battery module voltage sensing circuit

Devices and systems are provided that incorporate fusible links within the electrical traces of a battery module voltage sensing circuit. The fusible links can be integrally formed in an electric trace and provide an overcurrent protection feature for the circuit without requiring fuse elements or components that are separate from the electrical trace. Each of these fusible links include a substantially flat controlled cross-sectional area disposed along a length of the material making up the electrical trace. In an overcurrent situation, the connection between a battery management system and a battery cell may be severed by the overcurrent melting the fusible link. The electrical traces may be spaced apart from one another in the circuit such that an overcurrent situation breaking the connection between one cell and the battery management system would not affect adjacent electrical traces not having an overcurrent situation.
