Devices and methods for performing a surgical step or surgical procedure with visual guidance using an optical head mounted display are disclosed.

INTRAOPERATIVE GUIDANCE SYSTEMS AND METHODS

This disclosure relates to an intraoperative guidance system for total joint replacement of a joint of a patient by a surgeon. The guidance system comprises: an X-ray imaging device for single-shot application of X-ray radiation to the joint and for etecting X-ray radiation to create a digital image of the joint and an implant component during a total joint replacement surgery; and a computer system configured to: store a digital three-dimensional model of the joint; receive the digital image during the total joint replacement surgery; perform registration between the digital image and the digital three-dimensional model to determine a placement of the implant component in the digital image in relation to the digital three-dimensional model; determine an intraoperative simulated erformance metric and provide an indication to the surgeon of the intraoperative simulated performance metric as an assessment of a current placement of the implant component.

IMAGE PROCESSING FOR INTRAOPERATIVE GUIDANCE SYSTEMS

This disclosure relates to an intraoperative guidance system. The guidance system comprises: an X-ray imaging device to create a two-dimensional digital image of a joint and an implant component; and a computer system configured to: store an initial three-dimensional model of the joint and the implant component; receive two or more two-dimensional digital images of the joint and the implant component; create a digital three-dimensional model of the joint and the implant component based on the two or more two-dimensional digital images; perform registration between the digital three-dimensional model and the initial three-dimensional model to determine a placement of the implant component; determine an intraoperative simulated performance metric by simulating movement of the digital three-dimensional model based on the placement; and provide an indication to a surgeon of the intraoperative simulated performance metric as an assessment of a current placement of the implant component.

Percutaneous methods, systems, and devices for positioning a guide wire in a bone

Minimally invasive percutaneous methods, devices, and systems for placing guide wires in bones in a desired position and orientation and for facilitating the treatment of fractures such as but not limited to intertrochanteric fractures or other applications such as osteotomies. The methods, devices, and systems may allow for rapid and reproducible placement of a guide wire in a bone. Each degree of freedom may be controlled independently.

Systems and methods for surgical navigation with a tracker instrument

There is provided a surgical instrument for navigated surgeries and systems and methods using such a surgical instrument. The surgical tool comprises a tip; a tool interface, separate from the tip; and an optically trackable target. The tip is configured to probe positions in a space and identify the positions using optical information from the optically trackable target. The tool interface is configured to mate with a surgical tool such that the optical trackable target then provides optical information with which to determine positional information for the surgical tool in the space. In one example, the system provides navigational information during surgery using the surgical instrument, namely, a single integrated tracker instrument with two or more mechanical interfaces for coupling the tracker instrument with anatomical features and/or surgical tools.

Anatomically guided instrumentation for trochlear groove replacement

A system for replacing a trochlear groove region of a femur. The system includes a prosthesis that includes a bone contact surface and a periphery that defines an outer perimeter. The bone contact surface has a plurality of protrusions and a spatial configuration with respect to one another. Additionally, the system includes a first template that has a plurality of guide holes and a first periphery that defines an outer perimeter that substantially corresponds with the periphery of the prosthesis. Also, included in the system is a second template that has a plurality of guide holes and a second periphery that defines an outer perimeter that substantially corresponds with the periphery of the prosthesis. The plurality of guide holes of the second template are spatially arranged with respect to the second periphery to substantially match the spatial configuration of the plurality of protrusions of the prosthesis.

Methods and devices for intracorporeal bonding of implants with thermal energy

The present invention provides a method for stabilizing a fractured bone. The method includes positioning an elongate rod in the medullary canal of the fractured bone and forming a passageway through the cortex of the bone. The passageway extends from the exterior surface of the bone to the medullary canal of the bone. The method also includes creating a bonding region on the elongate rod. The bonding region is generally aligned with the passageway of the cortex. Furthermore, the method includes positioning a fastener in the passageway of the cortex and on the bonding region of the elongate rod and thermally bonding the fastener to the bonding region of the elongate rod while the fastener is positioned in the passageway of the cortex.

Intramedullary nails, systems, and methods. The intramedullary nail may include a generally elongate body extending from a first, distal end to a second, proximal end. The distal end may include one or more openings configured to receive one or more bone anchors that extend transversely through the distal end intramedullary nail, and thereby configured to secure the distal end of the nail. The proximal end may also include one or more openings configured to receive one or more bone anchors that extend transversely through the proximal end of the intramedullary nail, and thereby configured to secure the proximal end of the nail. In some embodiments, the proximal end may further include a cross-locking feature, which includes a second bone anchor that interlocks with a first bone anchor, for example, for enhanced bone purchase and bony fixation.

LIGHT EMITTING BONE IMPLANTS

A bone implant includes a bore extending entirely through the bone implant. The bone implant also includes a light source to emit light onto bone adjacent the bone implant to stimulate bone growth and/or reduce bone loss.
