Quadrupole devices
A method of operating a quadrupole device is disclosed that comprises operating the quadrupole device in a first mode of operation, and operating the quadrupole device in a second mode of operation. Operating the quadrupole device in the first mode of operation comprises applying one or more first voltages to the quadrupole device such that the quadrupole device is operated in an initial stability region and such that at least some ions are stable within the quadrupole device. Operating the quadrupole device in the second mode of operation comprises applying one or more second voltages to the quadrupole device such that the quadrupole device is operated in a different stability region and such that at least some of the ions that were stable within the quadrupole device in the first mode of operation are stable within the quadrupole device in the second mode of operation.
Multipole assembly configurations for reduced capacitive coupling
A first multipole assembly includes a first plurality of rod electrodes arranged about an axis and configured to confine ions radially about the axis. A second multipole assembly disposed adjacent to the first multipole assembly includes a second plurality of rod electrodes arranged about the axis and configured to confine the ions radially about the axis. An orientation of the first multipole assembly about the axis is rotationally offset relative to an orientation of the second multipole assembly about the axis.
SPACE-TIME BUFFER FOR ION PROCESSING PIPELINES
A space-time buffer includes a plurality of discrete trapping regions and a controller. The plurality of discrete trapping regions is configured to trap ions as individual trapping regions or as combinations of trapping regions. The controller is configured to combine at least a portion of the plurality of trapping regions into a larger trap region; fill the larger trap region with a plurality of ions; split the larger trap region into individual trapping regions each containing a portion of the plurality of ions; and eject ions from the trapping regions.
MASS SPECTROMETERS THAT UTILIZE IONIC WIND AND METHODS OF USE THEREOF
The invention generally relates to mass spectrometers that utilize ionic wind and methods of use thereof.
LOGICAL OPERATIONS IN MASS SPECTROMETRY
The invention generally relates to logical operations in mass spectrometry. The system comprising a mass spectrometer comprising one or more ion traps; and a central processing unit (CPU), and storage coupled to the CPU for storing instructions that when executed by the CPU cause the system to apply one or more scan functions to the one or more ion traps, the scan functions being combine together.
TIME-FREQUENCY ANALYSIS
Apparatus and method for processing an image-charge/current signal for an ion(s) undergoing oscillatory motion within an ion analyser apparatus. The method comprises: obtaining a recording of the image-charge/current signal (20a-20e) in the time domain. Then, by a signal processing unit, a value for the period (T) of a periodic signal component is determined within the recorded signal. Subsequently, the recorded signal is segmented into a number of successive time segments [0;T] of duration corresponding to the period (T). These lime segments are then co-registered in a first time dimension (t.sub.1) defining the period (T). The co-registered time segments are then separated along a second time dimension (t.sub.2) transverse to the first time dimension (t.sub.1). This generates a stack of time segments collectively defining a 2-dimensional (2D) function. The 2D function varies both across the stack in the first time dimension and along the stack in the second time dimension.
Methods for Transferring Ions Between Trapping Devices of Variable Internal Pressure
A mass spectrometer system, comprises: an ion source; a first and a second multipole apparatus; one or more ion gates or ion lenses between the first and second multipole apparatuses; at least one power supply configured to provide voltages to electrodes of the ion source, the mass analyzer, the first and second multipole apparatuses and the one or more ion gates or ion lenses; and a computer or electronic controller electrically coupled to the at least one power supply, wherein the computer or electronic controller comprises computer-readable instructions that are operable to cause the at least one power supply to supply voltages to the electrodes that cause transfer of ions from the first multipole apparatus to the second multipole apparatus, wherein a duration of a time allotted for completion of the transfer of the ions is dependent upon one or more properties of the ions being transferred.
A linear quadrupole ion trap mass analyzer
An ion trap (100) includes a first electrode pair (110) and a second electrode pair (130), each including a first conductive member (112) and a second conductive member (120) and facing each other so that the first conductive member (112) of the first electrode pair (110) is on a common plane with the second conductive member (120) of the second electrode pair (130) and so that the second conductive member (120) of the first electrode pair (110) is on a common plane with the first conductive member (112) of the second electrode pair (130), a gap (132) therebetween. A signal generator (210) generates a periodic signal (212) applied to the first conductive members (112). A phase shifter (216) generates a second periodic signal (218) that is 180 out of phase therewith applied to the second conductive members (120). Ions are trapped by a resulting electric field.
Agnostic Compound Elution Determination
Each of one or more unknown compounds are separated from a sample over a separation time period. Separated compounds are ionized, producing one or more compound precursor ions for each of the unknown compounds and a plurality of background precursor ions. A precursor ion mass spectrum is measured for the combined compound and background precursor ions at each time step of a plurality of time steps spread across the separation time period, producing a plurality of precursor ion mass spectra. One or more background precursor ions are selected from the plurality of precursor ion mass spectra that have a resolving power in a range below a threshold expected resolving power. A separation time is detected for an unknown compound when a decrease in an intensity measurement of the selected background precursor ions over a time period exceeds a threshold decrease in intensity with respect to time.
